Brower hijacked with redirect to a commercial site or link portal

[ Edited ]

I can't click on a link in a search engine without being redirected to a commercial site or link portal  that was vaguely related to my search (most of the sites are just a short list of links). I ran Norton Internet Security 2009 and Ad-aware, but both found nothing. I know that there was already a thread for this topic, but the reply button was greyed out. I ran HijackThis, would someone be willing to look at the log file?

Re: Brower hijacked

Run Hijack this Scan, check only the following entry and click Fix.

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Only this entry seems to be malicious in your Hijackthis log. Also, try the suggestion from the post of  mattsegers in the following thread:

Re: Brower hijacked

My previous message was a bit premature (You guys have my permission to delete it). I discovered that after I last posted that Wikipedia links still led to ads *sigh*. I just ran SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes with my internet disconnected until they both had no more adware/cookies to report ( I restarted my computer inbetween times) and I removed the "extra button" with Hijackthis, but both my browsers are still getting hijacked ( I have Firefox and IE8 installed).

Re: Brower hijacked

Here's the log, the scan took a really long time. Apparently, I was hit by the rogue computer system from the Terminator series (Skynet)

Re: Brower hijacked

Mizi,

I can confirm that you have definitely got the SKYNET rootkit... Hopefully Quads will be along soon to help you!!

In the mean time, I would suggest the following:

1) go to tools - internet options - programs (In Internet explorer that is, if its what you are using - otherwise, do the equivalent in the browser you use) - manage addons - at the drop down arrow, go to "ADDONS CURRENTLY LOADED IN IE" and make sure they are all disabled. This way you will at least have basic use of your browser for now - I hope. (You don't have to disabled things like shockwave, flash player, etc. {the things you know} )

2) Boot into safe mode; Safe mode - restart and repeatedly press F8 (orF5 - cant remember) until you get the boot screen, choose safemode (XP); in VISTA, hold in the F button instead of repeatedly pressing it.

3) Go start, run, type: navw32 /L and let it do a scan; this way it might pick up the rootkit and maybe block a bit of what it is doing.

Good luck
