jUst wondered if the new nis 2011 map (which is neat but...) on the menu can it be turned off and not updated. But only that not other stuff?
I just wonder on a small pc if its a waste of cpu and memory? I dont really want to run w/ smart updates thing on cause Id like to be fully protected tho'.

HI artfreak
As far as I know the map cannot be turned off but the question of resource usage was asked during the Beta Testing and it was advised that the usage was minimal.

Here is the thing. The map is only displayed when you open NIS and not when NIS is generally running. If you want to turn off the map then click online family and the map is replaced with other options. If you stay like that there is no map until you close and reopen the next time.

It's like the Pulse Updates. They are really small sized updates, under 100Kbytes. And they are updated not so often as other parts.

Hi all,
I'm the developer that designed the Theat Map (along with about 15 other people).
The Threat Map data download size is about 70 KB. It is updated about once a day. By contrast the HTML from this web page is 190KB without images or CSS, etc. The map is only loaded from disk when you open the Main UI and is unloaded when closed.

Was the Threat Map a feature that users requested.... or
Does marketing decide what non essential features users want.
Just curious why the resources of 15 people would be dedicated to developing a Threat Map.
Does the competition have a Threat Map built in to their product.
Symantec homepage has ThreatCon......
Non essentials IMO like Optimizer & Monthly Reports has an Off ...the Map should have an Off
What do I know...maybe every user was just crying for a Threat Map ?

15 people for 1 small area of the software does seem abit much.
