I live in Mexico but spend a couple of months in Michigan each year. I have a laptop in Mexico and have NIS 2012 installed in the Spanish edition for 1 license which will run out in Feb. 2013. I just bought a new computer for home in Michigan and need to purchase NIS 2012 for it. If I buy a NIS 2012 (English version) from Amazon.com CD with permission for 1 user and 3 computers can I install it in the computer in Michigan now and in Feb. 2013 install it in the computer in Mexico. Should I use my Latin American Norton account to register new English version or set up a new U. S. account?

What ever account you use on the 1st installation is where it is tied. Also the clock starts on the 1st install and all 3 will expire 366 days after the 1st install. Maybe you can install a trial version to stretch your time and install the new version before you leave for Mexico.

The short answer is yes you can use the US KEY in Feb 2013 to extend the subscription of your computer in Mexico but that subscription will not run for 12 months but for the balance of the period on the "US Computer".
Note that the language of the installation (if your "Mexican computer" is not in English) depends on the download at the time of installation and not the KEY so whatever you have in Mexico will not change.
BUT say you have NIS 2012 (2013 has just been released in the last few days) and keep it through until April 2013 when you will be on the American KEY then when you go to get the Version Upgrade you must be certain that you get the installation file for the Mexican version; ordinary live updates are OK but if you go to the Upgrade Center or leave the Download new version automatically setting active then the presence of the American Key will trigger an American language download.
If you see what I mean! All this may seem complicated but when you get to it you'll find it straightforward if you ask for help first! We can give you the URL for the correct language file when you need it.
I don't think you will have a problem activating your US Key version on your US PC inside your existing Latin American Account as long as you use the same email address and password. I have more than one copy of NIS entered in my one Norton Account but they are all US versions. If you have a problem then the Norton Online Support via the CHAT route which uses the keyboard and not your phone will help you resolve it quickly and painlessly.

BTW You don't have to actually use the CD which if it's the 2012 will be nearly a year out of date. If you want to we can give you a URL to download the nearly current version of NIS 2012
And also IMPORTANT -- if your new PC comes with a trial version of security software preinstalled you need to remove that and run a clean up tool you can download from the website of that product (we can give you a link) if it is other than the same Norton product as your purchase.
If it's a trail version of Norton then use it until the trial expires and then use your purchased version which will then not start the subscription countdown immediately.

I will be going to Michigan next Friday to set up new computer there. As far as I know there are no trial versions installed.
Here is my plan as well as new questions.
1. On Friday I will download free 30 day trial of NIS 2012 from Norton web site giving them my credit card number which means if I don't opt out I will be charged for new year. Do I need to send Norton something to opt out if I install new CD or download nearly current version of NIS 2012 before 30 day period is up? (Please give me the URL site to download nearly current version of NIS 2012. Will the key with the CD work with current version of download?) Do I need to uninstall the free 30 day trial version before installing new one year subscription?
2. In February 2013 I will install NIS 2012 on computer in Mexico.
Thanks again for all you help!!!

Hi jerryscan,
As you have the trail version installed on your new machine, you could just activate the Norton Internet security with the key you have got with the CD. Which would work fine with the software you have downloaded.
The link to download the latest version of the Norton Internet security is : www.norton.com/nis20
You could use the same link to download the Norton in Mexico and use the key to activate.
Regarding the Opt out trailware, if you log in to your Norton account, you would have an option to opt out of the charge. If you do not find one, you could always connect to www.norton.com/chat and ask to be opted out of the charge.

That link is for NIS 2013 which was just released and is very buggy. You can try this link which is 2012 and is version 19.5.1.2. Using Live Update it should update to 19.8.0.14 which is the last 2012 version.

Double check for trial security on the new PC since unless custom built it's very common.
I'd recommend sticking to 2012 and using Phonemans's link to get the installer file which does not need a credit card but gives you about 7 - 15 days trial (I'm not certain) and you don't have to remove that but just activate it with the Key from the copy you purchased.
