Hi Glennc,
Welcome to Norton community.
Are you talking about getting the Norton Toolbar on your internet brower?
If yes, On your second machine please tell me the operating system name, browser name and version and also the name of norton product installed on that machine.
Thanks,
Ravi

Howdy Ravi,
Thanks for your response. It is firefox 11 latest update and the same norton AV 19.6. I am hoping it is a setting thing that I missed and hope it will not immediately be dismissed because I am using the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Now granted it may be, but I would like to walk the steps of settings that might have been done wrong by yours truly. I am mainly talking about the security indicators when doing a search. I rely on them implicitely. Hope you can help!
regards,
Glenn

Thank you for providing all this information Glenn.
I suppose having windows 8 should not cause a problem, because the Toolbar is more dependent on the browser.
Though i am not very certain, can you please go to Tools -> Add-on's --> Extenstions and check if you can see "Norton toolbar or vunnerablity protection " over there? If yes, then it might be disabled, please enable it and restart the browser.
If you do not find it there, Open your Norton Antivirus and do live update until the product says "you have the latest definitions" or "no updates available" and then check in firefox extensions for that toolbar again.
I am sure it works that way in other windows versions. Please try this and let me know if this works.
Thanks,
Ravi

Hello Ravi,
I appreciate you giving it a shot! I show Norton Safe Webtoolbar 2012.1.1.16 marked incompatible with Firefox 11 and greyed out and dsabled, and I show the Norton Vulnerability Protection 10.1.0.68 - 2 as Enabled. This is how the Windows 7 computer is set-up in Firefox 11.
Now in the W7 Firefox, I do not have a toolbar but I do have an option in the search box to pick Norton Safe Search as the default search engine. Also when I do a search with only the Safe Search, do I get the site ratings. On the Windows 8 Firefox 11 program, Norton Safe Search is not shown and thus can't be chosen.
I hope this can provide you with some insight into the issue! Thanks again
Glenn

Hi glennc,
Are you using Norton Antivirus, not Norton Internet Security? And is your issue with the standalone product Norton Safe Web Lite? If so, that is because newer Firefox versions are not supported by Norton Safe Web Lite, as explained in the following post.

Hello Sir,
The product in the Windows 7 Machine and the Windows 8, indicates it is Norton Antivirus 19.6****. I understand about the Norton Safe Web Lite as it hasn't worked for a while now in the newer Firefoxes. The Vulnerability Protection is showing in both machines as in the extensions and as enabled. I just was pocking around in the Windows 8 Norton Antivirus and found an option that say that Norton Safe Web Lite is currently installed and running on your computer, even though it is disabled in the Firefox extensions list. But as described the Norton Safe Search is displayed in the search box of FF11 and is set as the default search engine in W7, there is no Norton Toolbar. In W8 the Safe Search is not shown and I can not set it as the default or use it at all. I am definitely out of my league in the proper setup of Norton AV settings. I believe it is a possibility I messed up some settings... hopefully! I was extremely glad that Norton AV runs on W8 as the built in Windows Defender is inadequate.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
Regards,
Glenn

If I had to guess, I would say that Norton Safe Web Lite, which is a completely separate program from NAV, is not compatible with Windows 8. There really would be no point in updating a discontinued program to be compatible with a beta version of a new operating system.

Hello again and thanks,
Since Safe Web Lite Toolbar is disabled in Windows7 and in Window 8 and has been for some time, can you elaborate on why you believe it is a Windows 8 problem? No offense intended as I appreciate that you are volunteers, trying to help complete strangers, but I was hoping for more than a guess, if you see what I mean.
What is running the Norton Safe Search, Norton AV or Norton Safe Web Lite? What is installing and running the Norton Vulnerablility Progtection, Norton Av or Safe Web Lite?
You mention tbat Norton Safe Web Lite is a discontinued program. Is Norton planning a replacement or is one already available in another of Norton's products? Even with the limitations of the Ask Search Engine, I relied on the safe search to rate and establish the safety of a site. WOT doesn't measure up.
My renewal date comes up in about a month and a half, is the ability to use the Norton Safe Search going to be available in the renewal? I have been a norton user since MSDos 3.0.

When you install NIS/N360 you will have Norton safe search, Norton Vulnerability Protection,Norton Toolbar will be enabled by default.
When you install Norton Antivirus, you will have Norton Vulnerability Protection alone, and you will not have Toolbar, Safe search
Norton Safeweb lite is freeware product, when you install this you will Norton safe search alone and you will not have other features.

Instead of Norton Safe Web lite now we have IDSS(Norton Identity Safe Standalone Toolbar) This will have Norton safe search, Norton Toolbar. Please see more info from this thread

Please provide the prodcut name (with version) which you are using now? e.g NIS or N360 or NAV(Norton Antivirus)
If you are having Norton Antivirus 19.6 then you can install IDSS side by side to have Norton Toolbar,Norton Safe search
Once you have NAV and IDSS, you will have Norton Toolbar, Norton Safe search,Vulnerability Protection
