Hi Smr1954,
Welcome to the forum. Can you confirm your version of Windows 7 and 32 or 64 bit?
Is your Windows 7 a clean install or an upgrade? If upgrade, did you uninstall NIS before upgrading to W7?
Did you specify a password when you backed up your Identity Safe?

I have Windows 7 32 bit
I did a clean install to a new hdd so there was nothing installed on drive prior to
uprgade. I did load the new version of norton internet security 2010 about 5
days ago with win xp on system but on a different hdd.
i did specify a password when i saved the norton login backup.NPM file

Hi Smr1954,
Thanks for the update. I am a little confused on the steps you took however. You said you did a clean install on W7 to a new HDD, but then you also said you loaded the new version of NIS 2010 5 days ago with Win XP but on a different HD.
This is confusing. So you did a clean install of W7 to a new HDD. This means that NIS could not have been installed at this point in time. As it relates to W7 on a new HDD, did you then do a fresh install of NIS 2010 on to this new HDD? I don't understand the relevance of loading a new version of NIS onto a different HDD with Win XP.
If you installed NIS 2010 onto W7 with the new HDD, did everything install successfully and did you activate NIS with your existing product key? Did it install and activate sucessfully with no error messages?
When you tried to restore your Identity Safe data are you sure you specified the same password you used when you backed it up initially?
You backed up your Identity Safe data originally with NIS 2009, is that correct?
Thanks
Allen

I am having this same problem.
Note: I also tried it without a password but it comes up with a dialog box that the Restore Failed.

I ran into a similar issue when I upgraded from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010 on Windows XP. Here is how I was able to resolve it (resort to trickery):
In your new profile, backup a copy of your new identity safe data (it is empty, so you might want to store one item there just to avoid a possible refusal by Norton). Then exit the program. Log back in and proceed to do a restoration of your data, but instead of choosing the backup file you just created, pick the old one you are trying to import. This worked for me. YMMV. Let us know if this is successful.

Hi SendOfJive,
That is interesting, had not heard about this one before. Hopefully this will work for our friends as well.
Thanks

Just thought of something else if my profile identity name is not the same as before when i backed it up will it be a problem
The difference in profile name will not affect the backup and restore of .npm file. So this can not be the cause for your issue.
