This sounds about right for the notification to have been from the scheduled quick scan - 30 minutes to complete and then the video probably would have delayed the pop-up, particularly if it was running in full screen mode.

I too suspect that what SendOfJive said is probably correct. E.g., that a scheduled quick scan is probably being considered a "user initiated scan" and therefore subject to the pop-up message.

Personally I feel this should not generate a pop-up but I suspect that is the current design.

Thanks for the feedback.

To clarify .... I do not have Quick Scans scheduled .... they are only initiated during idle time.

The only user scheduled scan I have is a full scan scheduled once per week .... that scan ran yesterday at 13:21 ... the (unscheduled) idle time Quick Scan ran yesterday at 19:00 ... and the pop-up occurred yesterday at 20:37 ... so it appears that pop-up was from the (unscheduled) idle time Quick Scan.

According to my NIS History .... Since installing 19.5, Idle Quick Scans have been running between one and three times per day (I guess that depends on how frequently my computer is idle) ... and yesterday was the first time I saw a pop-up (since installing 19.5 last week).

I also agree that ALL pop-ups that say "no threat found" should be suppressed .... I thought that's what the fix (that was part of 19.5) was supposed to do.

Good news: according to NIS History report, three idle-time Quick Scans were run on my computer today, and there were no pop-ups.

Bad news: finding the cause of the pop-up that I saw yesterday will not be easy .... but there IS a flaw in the fix (introduced with 19.5) that still results in occasional pop-ups (stating "no threats found") ... which may now be so infrequent that the problem is tolerable and customers are not reporting the issue.

Thanks to those who have provided suggestions.

I'll post again when/if another pop-up occurs.

In past two days I've had two pop-ups stating "Scans completed. No threats found."

One was after a scheduled full scan; the other was after an unscheduled (idle time) quick scan.

In both cases, the pop-up came at least an hour after the corresponding scan completed. I have screen captures of both.

The pop-ups are clearly not ocurring as frequently as they did prior to the 19.5 fix, but the fix has not completely eliminated pop-ups that state "No threats found".

I suspect that the low frequency with which these pop-ups are now ocurring will not result in very many customer complaints, and thus I realize that it's not likely that the problem will be fully resolved.

I just wanted to let Symantec know that they have overlooked a case (however infrequent) that results in "No threats found" pop-ups still ocurring.

I'll be glad to provide any information needed to diagnose.

Thanks everyone for letting us know about the new development with the popup; I'm sorry that this issue is still lingering, albeit in a much less annoying state. Our team is able to reproduce the issue, and we're working to get a fix out to you soon. While I'm glad that most of the issues are resolved, I apologize for those of you still struggling with this last problem. Thanks for your hanging in there, we should have it resolved shortly.
