Cannot Install Correctly

I have used Nortons for a decade and have never had a problem like this one. I own NIS 2010 and have 7 days left on subscription. I have tried installing my  new 2011 every way imaginable. I have used the removal tool for 2010 and had to reinstall it because when I try to install 2011, it does NOT ask me for a key code and simply installs the 2011 and attaches it to my 2010 subscription, telling me I still only have 7 days left on my subscription.

These are the ways I have tired to install 2011 and the problem remains the same. It does not  allow me to input the new product code and assumes I still only have seven days left. It's maddening.

1. Tried to install 2011 with 2010 on the machine. 2011 installed, did not ask for product key, but demands I register, which I did. Then it installs and tells me I have seven days left on my brand new NIS 2011.

2. Used removal tool and removed 2011 AND 2010.

3. Tried again to install 2011. I end up with the same deal. 7 days remaining, no product code request.

4. Removed 2011 again, did a system restore back to a day earlier. It brought up my 2010 NIS but it wouldn't work. It didn't load and it was dead to clicking.

5. Removed 2010 again. Tried to install 2011, no request for product code, tells me I have seven days left.

Lo, I am losing my mind having spent hours on this. I am not back to my  2010 and now I have less than seven days remaining. I want to install 2011.  I want to put my new product code in. I want to use my Norton's. I want this odyssey  to end so I can get on with life. What's my malfunction?

Have Windows 7, and that's another problem. Instructions say Windows 7 people should choose "Launch" before clicking on Install. Sorry, but the "Launch" option doesn't exist on the CD.

This is maddening and I am just about ready to trash this CD and go find a free AV online. I have spend HOURS on this.

I have always loved Nortons but for their horrible customer service. No 800 number, no real online chat other than a useless bot. This is the ONLY place I could come and I had to jump thru hoops just to get signed on.

So PLEASE tell me how I can get rid of my 2010, because the Norton tool didn't do a thing for this problem. And of course, I have 15 days to activate my 2011 which I have already installed five times with no luck.

Hi  CynthiaS, and welcome to the Norton Community.

Please open NIS 2011 and click on the 'Renew' link as circled in red below:

NIS 2011 Renew Link.jpg

Clicking on 'Renew' will allow you to enter your new Product Key. As you have seven days left on your current subscription, please don't proceed with this process until your current subscription is about to end. This will ensure that you maximise the coverage of your existing subscription.

Re: Cannot Install Correctly

Yes I found that out the hard way. Laughing here.

Doh on me.

Thanks for the quick response. I also found the real Norton support link in one of the comments here. I wish they would put that 800 number and the chat link in a more prominent place and I wouldn't have been bothering you and spending hours trying to figure out the simple answer.

I take back everything I said about Norton support.

Let me asssure you that you found real Norton Support right here! There are even links here from Norton's direct online support. I'm proud and happy to say that you will usually get help here quickly and accurately from users who have BTDT ....

When experience shows that the Norton Customer Support is needed then we give links to that and from user feedback recommend the OnLine Chat as the quickest and most painfree ....

So now you know where we are, please come back here first if you need any help -- that's why Norton set up these forums!

Re: Cannot Install Correctly

Thank you for asking this question.  My new computer had a trial NIS 2011 so I purchased a 3 year version--(Used Norton since 1995).  I was running out of time to activate my download.  It never occurred to me to check my desktop folder or the bottom of the NIS 2011 scene to activate my download.  It was always done automatically before.

Thanks again.
