Hi

I got the trial version of NIS 2010. I used it for about 2 or 3 days. But I suddenly decided to use Norton 360 so I tried to uninstall the NIS 2010. I went to "Uninstall or change a program" I pressed on the uninstall icon for NIS 2010, the usual black window appeared. But when I pressed the "Second option" that removes all the settings and data, nothing happened!! The windows just disappeared!!

I tried this 3 or 4 times, I restarted the computer, the same thing happened. So I decided to use Norton Removal Tool. It removed successfully. I restarted the computer. But remembered that N360 doesn't have SONAR 2 !! So I felt like a fool. When I wanted to install back the NIS 2010, I clicked on the downloaded file, Initializing went well but when I press "Agree and Istall" the window disappears! I tried on safe mode and everything I could think of. I even removed all the traces of norton I knew from registery. But the problem persists !

Welcome to the Norton Community

Run the removal tool a couple of times rebooting between each run. Then try reinstalling NIS 2010.

If that doesn't work then do a System Restore to a date before you first installed NIS 2010.

My friend is also facing same problem.

I tried to install nis 2010 in it but no use.

Tried nrt several times, but setup starts initializes and then exits.

Same setup is able to run in my comp.

Seems to be a persisting problem.

Hi

Just an idea, but maybe the trial version of the program is made like that so that the same person doesn't keep trying out a trial version of the program for the 2 weeks for free, deletes it, then wants to try out the free program again for 2 weeks and so on. If the person was allowed to do that, then they could go on indefinitely  using a free program and getting the same benefits as the paid version. Are you trying to reinstall the paid version or the free trial again?

Had similar problem after using NRT

I re downloaded NIS from here http://updatecenter.norton.com/manually.ftl

and used my previous product key, Infact I remember Norton did that for me automatically.

@floplot: no this is not the case. norton keeps track of its subscription times no matter what happenss to it!

Nis 09 is working fine in his comp but nis 2010 setup initializes and vanishes.

Hi Rohit

Have you tried using ccleaner after using the NRT a few times? Have you tried installing NIS 2010 with a fresh download of the program and make sure that the download is a complete one. Do you have any other programs installed like any other antimalware program. Also have you scanned your friends computer for malware or a rootkit which could be preventing the install of NIS 2010? I know you say that the computer with 2009 is running fine, but the 2010 engine I believe is stronger and may look for certain things before it will install itself. I am assuming that the computer involved meets the specs for the program also.

Sounds like the installer is crashing for some reason. Are you not getting an error message of any description?
