System is WinXP Pro, SP3 and was running Norton Systemworks Pro 2006 since Day 1... no issues. Upon expiration of latest subscription, opted to upgrade to newer producs: Norton Internet Security 2010, plus Ghost 15.0. Downloaded the Symantec installer, and proceeded to upgrade: removal of old software seemed to go fine, as did installation of new software. After reboot to complete install, software immediately ran update, then second reboot after update. Since then I cannot complete boot process. I get beyond login to point where background loads, and different programs start loading, and then computer reboots. The reboot loop is continuous and the reboot seems to occur at about the same point.
Only way I'm here typing this note is to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Help!

Hello jmichna
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
Before you installed, you should have uninstalled System works using first your control panel and then use the Norton Removal Tool 2 times with a reboot after each run of the program. Since there is such a long span of time and difference of the products over the years, letting the installer uninstall the old product doesn't do a complete job. I don't know if using the removal tool at this point will stop the loop you are in. There is a separate live update applet with that old version also. The installer that comes with NIS 2010 is really more to just uninstall the previous year's program. Here is the Norton Removal Tool. The Removal Tool will remove all Norton products including your Ghost. Perhaps the use of the Removal Tool now would help, but I am not sure of that. If you do use the removal tool, please have your key ready for your products. After the use of the removal tool, you will have to reinstall your Norton products.
You can download the Norton Removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Thanks for the quick response. I downloaded the uninstaller and tried to run in Safe Mode (only way I can run computer). No luck: got error message "GoBack detected. SymNRT cannot continue execution in Safe mode"
Checked my XP system settings, and turned off 'System Restore' rebooted, and tried again with same results.
Booted into Safe mode, and ran NIS2010 uninstall (from the product's Folder), rebooted. Would not boot into Normal mode (same issue as before), so rebooted into Safe Mode, and tried again to run the uninstaller tool. Got same error message: "GoBack detected. SymNRT cannot continue execution in Safe mode"
Seems removing GoBack from Startup folder did not stop/kill it.
ETA: How do I kill Norton GoBack while in Safe mode?
Any other ideas?

Can you please go to Add or Remove programs and check whether Norton SystemWorks is still installed. If yes, please remove it. And then run Norton Removal Tool in safe mode.

Vineeth,
I have tried that. I get a popup that tells me "Setup has detected Windows is running in Safe mode. Please restart you machine in Normal mode. Setup will now exit."
The dilemma is I cannot boot successfully in Normal mode.

Can you please try the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base article:
Cannot start Windows after installing GoBack

Was able to boot into Windows 'Normal-Debug' mode successfully; from there was able to run the Norton Uninstall Tool successfully. Then proceeded to reinstall NIS2010 and Ghost 15.0... seems that as is well for now.
