The Fix-it tool was an earlier way to disable Autorun, and I think it disables the feature for all drives, including CD/DVD drives. I don't think the tool has any effect on the newer patch, but I am not positive (as you've discovered, Microsoft had made a complete mess of Autorun policy enforcement and sorting through all the documentation is not for the feint of heart). If CD/DVD autorun has been disabled and you prefer to keep it, try running the complementary Fix-it tool that undoes the change made by the first one. Then check your Autorun options in Vista to make sure that all are disabled except for CD/DVD drive. I don't think you've done any great harm.

Hi Calls,
Is the computer you are not seeing this on Windows Vista? Just want to be sure because for Windows 7 KB971029 is not required or needed since auto-run is disabled by default.
If this is on a computer with one of the applicable OS's shown in the KB article and you still don't see it you can download the update manually.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Allen

Thanks SoJ
I checked my microsoft security updates and I do not see that I KB971029 at all. : (
inf act most of my updates dont start with KB97...... within the last year plus.
so now I'm pretty concerned that I dont have that microsoft update that disables auto run
I know I get my microsoft updates, automatically. I even got today's updstes.
But not sure why I'm missing this one
any further appreciated
Please double-check to verify that you don't have it installed:
On another note, the 'Scan drives results' entries your saw in your Scan History are the result of a manually initiated drive scan. If you run a 'Drive Scan' from the Custom Scan window, a 'Scan drives results' item will be written to the Security History when the drive scan completes.
