Hello,
I have a 5 PC license for NIS 2009 (just upgraded one PC to 2010). Now i will buy a new PC. I want to UNinstall NIS 2009/2010 from my old PC because it will be refurbished. Will that also UNinstall/release that PC license in my account so that it will become available again for my new PC so that i can install NIS 2010 there?
Thanks,
Jan

Hi houtsma, welcome to the Norton community :-D
If you uninstall your NIS from your old computer then yes, it will "release" your licence :-) If you do run into any activation/licence/subscription difficulties after uninstalling your NIS and then installing it on your new computer, then you can contact Symantec Technical Support over here:

Hello again,
I uninstalled NIS from one PC (being online with that PC). However My Norton Account still indicates the same number of Activations (PCs) left.I would expect the number of activations to go to be increased by one?

Hi jan,
Usually, uninstalling NIS from a computer should free up a licence. Whether your Norton account takes some time to reflect this change following uninstallation is something I do not know; Symantec Customer Support will probably know, however.
Please contact Symantec Customer Support, explain that you have uninstalled NIS from one PC and ask them if it's normal for your Norton Account to still display the same number; they're the ones who can sort out licence issues and questions for you:

Please tell us how it goes. Thanks :-)

The crunch is what happens if you now try to install and activate on another machine -- You might find that uninstalling updates the basic Norton Activation database but does not feed that change down to what the user sees.
I just don't know so it would be interesting if you tried the 4th install before contacting Customer Support since we know that they have no difficulty in sorting out these things -- they have the tools and access to the database.
Please let us know.

Well, i am not ready to install on a new PC already. That PC will arrive later. I am just preparing at the moment and part of that is uninstalling NIS and free up one activation. So i will contact support and ask them how long it will take to reflect my change (if they ever received it).
I will let you know the results ;-)
Thanks, Jan

Please do so - thanks :-)
I would also like to add that if you were to install NIS on your new computer after uninstalling it from your old computer and received a notification that you have exceeded the number of activations, then you could still go to Customer Support and have them sort it out for you, so encountering such a notification would still not be a dead end, provided you have uninstalled NIS from your old computer first :-)

Ok, they tell me that the number under mynortonaccount doesn't change when you uninstall. However you can transfer to another PC and the count will not change again. We'll see when the time is there ;-)
Thanks, Jan
