Does anyone know of a link for the old parental controls? I'm just not into this Big Brother online BS.
If I can't find it, I'll have to go with another anti-virus protection. Ridiculous that NIS HAS to read all my internet traffic to do parental controls.
What I really can't believe is how many people are actually using it!
Thanks in advance,
Jet

Hi Jet,
Help me understand your problem. I'm assuming that you have more than one user on that computer and that you want to prevent improper usage by some of the other users.
When you install the parental controls you need to configure the program so that it monitors the suers you want to protect. It doesn't monitor the administrator, unless you add yourself to the list. If you are using an account with less than admin rights you can also exempt it.
If the program doesn't monitor/read the traffic how is it to protect a user from getting to places where there is trouble? Part of the cost of protection is a limited loss of privacy. It's all on your computer so you aren't sharing your viewing habits with others.

Hi joethejet,
The Norton Add-on Pack has been discontinued and is no longer available for download. Sorry.

As I understand, eveything is kept on the servers, NOT on the local computer. It IS big brother totally.
The old system kept everything local, but they made everything so it's on the server. NO thanks.
The old parental controls WERE local, but the new system isn't. This blows.
It's nice to know that only SOME of the traffic is monitored, but it's BS that they have to check any of it with no options to keep it local.
Big Brother to the max

Jet,
Things change. The current system does a better job of protecting those who use it. I don't know what the next version will do or where it will be centered. The 'cloud' seems to be the current thing. One problem of trying to protect with a user based system is keeping it up to date. There are already complaints from users about the number and frequency of updates the the security software. I almost hate to think of how many more would be needed to keep the parental controls updated as well.
As always, the choice is yours and we'll be here if you need us
