Yes, they would, unfortunately.  A system recovery puts your PC back to the way it was the first time you turned it on.   You don't realize how much you add to a computer until you contemplate having to do it all over again - even if it's only a matter of weeks, I guess.  I just mentioned this as one possible option, if you cannot piece things back together in a simpler way.

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

But i can't even seem to Uninstall Norton Internet Security from Start>Programs or Add and Remove Programs.

When i click on it nothing happens and I also got rid of Norton PC Checkup too just then. Lucky for me i have AVG 9 that i'll install till i get this to work.

This link takes me to a page to get the Norton Removal Tool but when i click Download.

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&selected_nav=&pvid=&docurl=200808281...

However then when i click the Download button, Chrome says this webpage cannot be displayed.

The download button link being: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

What do i do?

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

That link worked for me. I'm assuming that maybe your isp blocks ftp ports since you are over your download limit. What you can do is either a. Take your computer and perform those steps from your friend's house/public library/any stores offering free wireless like mcdonald's or star bucks using their internet connection. b. Go to an internet cafe cafe/public library and download the required files mentioned and copy it to your computer using a mass storage device like a portable harddrive, usb stick, or (gag!) floppy disk. Also before you install Norton, please remove avg, reboot, and run the avg removal tool for 32 bit os (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2011_1165.exe) for 64 bit os (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x64_2011_1165.exe)

To test your ftp connection can you go to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

I might have to go to a friend's house as you said and download the Norton Removal Tool and Installer. I reckon i cafe would be the worst place to go as they aren't really that secure.

Yeah the ftp link is really bugging me Tywin because i can't access that microsoft link through Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Say if i bought a Norton Internet Security 2011 and ran the setup through the CD they give me. Would that fix everything? As in remove the previous version and install the new one? I say that because when i tried the LiveUpdate tool it said that i didn't have Norton installed at all. :S

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

I don't think so and in fact may make the situation worse! Since the LiveUpdate tool wouldn't recognize nis, neither would the nis11 installer. Also can you please check your add or remove and uninstall "LiveUpdate" and if it is present, LiveUpdate notification.

You would first need to uninstall the old Norton software via the removal tool before attempting the reinstallation.

The ftp test link is ftp.microsoft.com without the question mark.

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

Ftp can be tricky sometimes.  If you are behind a router or NAT modem, these can sometimes block ftp traffic.  And if such a device also includes a firewall, you may have to lower the firewall settings in order to use ftp.  The fact that you cannot connect to download from an ftp site is probably due to something benign such as this, and not due to anything you have to worry about.

Please add your support for the idea that Norton should switch to html downloading for the removal tool rather than relying on ftp http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Product-Ideas/Switch-Norton-removal-tool-to-html-download-rath...

Re: Engine\17.7.0.12\uistub.exe Unspecified Error

Nah Tywin i still can't access the ftp microsoft site, it simply won't go to it. So Jive do you reckon theres a way to allow access to the ftp site?

And dw Tywin i will voice my concern for the ftp site. Right now i just installed AVG and will probably have to wait quite a while to download the Norton and AVG Removal Tool. Man this is gonna take forever.

Thanks for all you help guys!

Will get back to you when i successfully remove my current Norton program :)

Just type in ftp.microsoft.com into your browser. Do you have a router? What brand is it?
