I'm running windows XP and NIS 2011 (i've run Norton anti-virus for about 6 years with no problems). With NIS 2011, I'm now getting error 3038, 104. I ran the 20110118v5i32.exe virus update (twice) from the Norton website using Update Installer. When i go to virus update on the NIS icon, it says everything is up-to-date. When i run One Click Support Quick Scan, it says "no common problems found." Why am i still getting the error message?

You mention that you have run Norton antivirus for 6 years with no problems. Does that mean you have changed your product from NAV to NIS 2011? If you have done this, how did you install NIS 2011? If you had NAV 2010 installed and switched to NIS 2011, please tell us so that we can give you the proper way of removing your NAV 2010 before you install NIS 2011 again. Thanks.

There is old virus/firewall program (i think) still on my computer for Symantec. Some files are dated 2010 and 2006, but several are dated 01/09/2011, i.e., files for SYMEVENT setup, security, and system. Thanks.

Hello jpn
I would recommend that you uninstall and reinstall your NIS 2011. If you had NAV installed previously or for some reason got a bad install this time, it could cause your problem.
1. please get your key from www.mynortonaccount.com
2. please save your identity safe file if you use this feature.
3, please download and save the Norton Removal Tool. Please be aware that it will remove all Norton products.
You can download the Norton Removal tool from
http://www.symantec.com/symnrt
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Thank you Allen for new link
4, please download and save NIS 2011. This is the English version. If you need another version please let us know.
5. please remove NIS 2011 from the control panel as well as any other year Norton security program and reboot your computer. From this point on, please stay off the net.
6. please run NIS 2011 and connect back to the net when it wants to.
7. please run live update until you get all updates and then reboot.
8. please replace your saved identity safe file if you use that feature.
9. go thru options and do any tweaks you need to do and please remember to back up your identity safe any time you make changes to it.
10. please run a manual full scan to see if any malware is found.
Please come back and let us know how you made out. If you need a different language of NIS 2011, please let us know. Thanks.

This fix seems to have solved the problem. I say "seems" because after the re-install there were other problems that cropped up (unrelated?). The "windows installer" started to do strange things with Roxio CinePlayer (which i don't use). I think i solved this problem with an uninstall/reinstall of the entire Roxio suite.
When i try to do a full system scan with NIS, it hangs on something called the "Roxio Log", which is a file i can't find. So, overall, two problems solved and one remaining.

Hello jpn
You can put the roxio folder into your exclusion list of things not to scan. Please try that and let us know if it helps. Thanks.

Hi jpn,
Some Roxio programs are known to break after using the Norton Removal Tool. Reinstalling Roxio, as you did, should fix things.
