Every time I boot my computer I get a live update request

[ Edited ]

Every time I boot my computer I get a live update request?

It says:" Would you like to run Liveupdate now to install the available updates"

This happens even if I have only just run live update no more than a minute previously

Can anyone explain why this is happening and/or suggest a way to dismiss this annoying occurence!

OK I looked at that thread and clearly this is something Symantec should  be doing something about!

What is their opinion and what do they think should be done in this case?

I think they should reply and give us subscribers some information as to what they think is the best thing to do.

Please check and see if "Notify Me" is checked and let us know if it is or not.

Also, what Product are you using and Version, e.g. Norton Internet Security 2008?

Robert, can you manually run LiveUpdate and see if there are any packages that are failing to install (don't run it from the pop-up)? Nobody ever answered that request in the thread that you cited.

I bet there aren't.

Why don't you FINALLY check the true issue that happens - a user unchecks the 'Notify me... ' option in the user interface of NAV/NIS 2008, but the ALUNotify entry doesn't dissapear from the Run section in the registry?

It should be easy to recreate it.

No everything is the same as it's been for ages

It's just that every time i boot my computer I bet the popup which says;"Would you like to run Liveupdate now to install the available updates"

This only just started recently and as others have said if it's in the registry in the Run section than that is the normal behaviour.

It's really annoying. It should not be happening and what do Symantec intend to do about it?

When I run Live update from the normal interface it just says that my antivirus system is up to date.

One thing that's different.... in the main dialog "settings" where I can turn on  "Automatic Live Update" it will not accept my changes to try and make it active?

Now everything is messed up!

I decided to use the Symantec application removal tool to remove all my Symantec products hoping that might find the solution.

Everything went fine until in the re-install of NIS2008 the installer asked for a system driver called SymIMV.sys which was supposedly located in

C:\Program files\common files\symantec shared\symnetdrv   The problem is there was no such file and without that I could proceed no further.

So now I'm stuck! I've got no virus protection - no firewall and no Symantec products at all.

Any suggestions from one of the Symantec techs watching these forums would be greatly apreciated.

HELP!!!!!

Re: Every time I boot my computer I get a live update request

At this point, it's probably best to run Symantec's Norton Removal Tool again. Since you have an active subscription, you are entitled to use the newer Norton Internet Security 2009 which can be installed from the Norton Update Center after you've used the removal tool. This should solve your installation problem as well as your LiveUpdate notice issue.

Re: Every time I boot my computer I get a live update request

maybe I'm not reading this right, but isn't the request that pops up when you turn your computer on just sking if you want to CHECK for updates?
