Hey everyone:
Let's say that I have "tweaked" many of the user definable settings within NIS 2010 and I would like to preserve them when installing NIS on another computer. Is it possible to globally export the NIS configuration information to a single file (or directory) for importing?
I'm curious...
Thanks.

Hi drbisendine:
"Yes and what a great way for some malware to hack into a user's security software; good suggestion"
I interpret the tone of your post to be one of sarcasm. Certainly not becoming of a GURU, don't you think? ![]()
The file could be scanned before importing it back into NIS or NAV, first. Perhaps the file can also be encrypted.
Please be more professional in the future. Thank you.

The settings are already saved from one version to another (as you know). The exception to this is when engines are totally revised so Norton does not try and transfer the settings as that would not be valid from older to newer. (An example of this is the AntiSpam from NIS2009 to NIS2010.)
The point was, and is, that the more one opens the internal processes of the security software, the easier it is for malware to stop the security processes or alter the security settings of the affected machine.

To drisendine.
Plankton is right. What if you have to move the configuration FROM one machine TO another. That was the point! I had to do this one time and it took me nearly 20 minutes of lost productivity.

Understand your concerns, Alexcho, but I have used "secure" software that did have this function in the past and in every case these software were the easiest to have malware hack and stop the internal running processes.
This is why I choose to run one that does not have this function at all.
Interesting concept for NIS / NAV since some of the settings are not saved in a file at all right now.

Hi Alexcho:
Exactly the point I had made in my first post.
Thanks for your input!
