Have used NIS successfully for some years. I updated in March to 2007 and recently was offered the free 2008 upgrade, but have had horrendous problems trying to install it. I've had two chat sessions of over 3 hours each with a Symantec analyser, following which the programme seemed to be working all right. However when I tried to run LiveUpdate the following day I received the error message LU1812 and LU1825. While downloading and installing of mzxm13.dll you received an error message "RegSvr32: LoadLibrary(C:\WINDOWS\system32\mzxm13.dll") failed -The specified module could not be found".
I've been in contact with Technical Support, removed in installation, created a new user account, tried to reinstall and get the same messages every time, went back to Technical Support, and at their suggestion downloaded Microsoft .NET 3.0 - same result.
Have you any idea why I am having these problems when previous versions have worked perfectly well. My OS is Win XP Home SP3.

Can you just check your NIS 2008 version number by opening the main control center and then Help and Support > About > Norton Internet Security. The version should be: 15.5.0.23
When NIS was uninstalled was the Norton Removal Tool used?
Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Yes that is the version, it actually came up when I pointed the cursor at the icon.
NIS was uninstalled using the Norton Removal Tool.

Yes, Phil, I have come across these two during my efforts to install. I have just tried them both again with mixed results.
LU1812 - This one is sitting on my desktop. On both occasions when I tried to install it (both previously and just now) I have received the following message:
RegSvr32: LoadLibrary ("C:\ WINDOWS\system32\mzxom13.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.
LU1825 - When I previously clicked on the download button for this file (SymKBFix.exe) the link didn't work (tried both Firefox and IE). I then did a Google search for an alternative source but couldn't find a site which allowed a download. Surprise, surprise, I've just tried it again and it worked and it is now installed and I've rebooted my computer.

That question jogged my memory. I realised I had downloaded and installed msxml3.dll but hadn't then gone back and run LiveUpdate. I have now re-downloaded that file and installed it and run LiveUpdate from the link which did work. I then went back to the document and under Step 5 clicked on the Norton Internet Security link and downloaded that file.
When I double-clicked on the file to open it, it performed all the pre-scans and started the installation proper, but when it got as far as installing Norton Internet Security itself I received the now familiar messages:
"An installation failure has occurred. Attempting to recover installation failure", followed by
"Gathering error information and sending to Symantec", followed by
"A setup error has occurred which necessitates a reboot. Would you like to reboot now?"

Can you go to temp files (Start>Run ,in the Run dialogue box type %temp% and hit enter key) and open the URL.txt file.
Inside the URL.txt file, you can see a few lines describing the error message (containing 9999,171) .You can see an a value , b value and an e value along with that. Let me know a= ,b = , e= (if any) so that I can help you further.
