Firefox 10.0.1 Incompatible with Norton Vulnerability Protection 10.1.0.68-1

I found today, that Firefox 10.0.1 was still running after closing the programme. After a process of elimination, it would appear to be the Norton Vulnerability Protection 10.1.0.68-1 add on, which is causing the problem, so have had to disable it.

Norton Toolbar 2012.6.0.1 is working perfectly well.

Hi Gaelceltic,

Vulnerability Protection 10.1.0.68-1 is the current version, compatible with Firefox 10.0.1.  I'm not sure why you would be experiencing a problem.  How did you determine that this add-on was the cause of the issue?

I disabled all add ons and plug ins in Firefox, then re-enabled them, one at a time, to see which, if any, were causing the problem. Once discovering the problem I tried several times disabling and re-enabling Norton V P, and have found that this is the only add on (which I have), which is causing Firefox not to close down properly.

You can give the following procedure a try.  I'm not sure it will solve the issue, but it is worth a shot:

Re: Firefox 10.0.1 Incompatible with Norton Vulnerability Protection 10.1.0.68-1

Hello folks:

Sorry to break into this thread, but the Noerton Vulnerability Protection version caught my eye.  My system shows version 10.1.0.0.  I'm using IE9 - Win 7 Pro 64, and everything is up to date and the Norton Vulnerability Protection BHO add-on is enabled.  I also see that my Norton Toolbar version (2012.5.0.140) is different than the one Gealceltic shows.  Is the version different depending on the browser?

Hi BC,

Yes the versions will be different for each of the browsers and also for each of the Norton Programs.

Thank you. Tried that and didn't help. I'll have a look around and see if there is anything else that I can do. If anything else springs to mind which might help, would appreciate it. Unfortunately, can't even uninstall the NVP. Was hoping that I could, so that it would install again. Back to the drawing board, and leaving it disabled for now.

Thanks again SendofJive, I've finally managed to resolve the situation. Indeed, it would appear to be corrupt files. I had a few more extension files in my profile folder, than in the link above, which I deleted, and all has returned to normal now, thank goodness. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_add-ons#Corrupt_extension_files
