Firefox 12 hanging with latest NIS 2012 (19.7.1.5) patch Again !

Window 7 - 64 bit - Fully Patched.

Firefox 12 - Release Stream up to date.

NIS 2012 - 19.7.1.5

Vunerability Plugin 10.1.1.8-3

Firefox happily working, suddently - "Profile in use" tried various combination of start and restart consistent if every restart or start after a normal exit., there is a firefox process left running ... so something is stopping the firefox process shutdow ... guess who again ...  Vunerability Plugin.

Created a firefox profile with only that plugin, if enabled, firefox won't restart / start without killing the windows process, disable that plugin - works perfectly.

So again we have incompatible firefox plugins (same symptom as last time), and this time it seems its Symantec who made the last change, no changes to Firefox since the Norton change (see sticky) and I'dont believe Windows update has run either.

Symantec you really need to stop doing this.  How long for a fix ?

Hi xyz,

It appears your problem is with theNorton Vulnerbility Protection plus-in being one update behind.  The current NVP is version 10.1.1.8-4.

I would suggest you run manulad LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested) ubntil such time as LU responds no more updates available.

If that doesnt help perhaps your best bet would be to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool located here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&do...

Be sure to read the Before you begin at the beginin of the KB and also be aware there is another repair topin at the bottom if no joy.

Please let us know how it goes.

Re: Firefox 12 hanging with latest NIS 2012 (19.7.1.5) patch Again !

Reboot fixed it (thanks)... well after start (enabling plugin) and exiting firefox afterwards... you can't enable and RESTART firefox it hangs and you then have to kill, enable again, restart, etc ... strictly have to enable and exit.

My guess is the update process for Norton either:

- Doesn't request a restart or it can be ignored.

- Doesn't handle the browser being open when the install happens.  The problem here is the old plugin stops a safe exit of Firefox, so we can end up with Update plugin, exit, hang, terminate firefox, start firefox, update plugin (potentially forever).

- Doesn't handle 2 logged on users, both potentially with browser sessions but only 1 using the computer.

It really does need to get smarter, 2nd set of fixes for NIS 2012 that have done this.

Anyway, working again.
