This past Friday, I began playing a Facebook game called 'Total Domination: Nuclear Strategy'. Mozilla Firefox (version 5.0) was the browser I used when I began playing it. However, after closing the browser for a bit, I opened Facebook again in it and realized that, once I signed in, tabs were opening on their own. After changing my Facebook password and restarting my computer and updating Firefox to version 5.0.1, I was still experiencing the same problem. My (failed) efforts to solve the problem involve performing scans using the following programs (all these programs had the most current updates at the time I used them): TrendMicro Housecall, CCleaner (a free system cleaner), Ad-Aware (the free version), and Norton Internet Security. TrendMicro Housecall found no problems. I ran either one or two Ad-Aware full-system scans and on one of them, ten tracking cookies were found and removed. A full-system scan using Norton Internet Security found and removed five security risks.
I do not seem to have any problems using Facebook in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0.2.
I did not have any problems before I started playing 'Total Domination: Nuclear Strategy', which leads me to believe there is a virus within that particular game.
What should I do to solve this problem? I would rather use Mozilla Firefox to surf the Web, but I will use Microsoft Internet Explorer until the problem is resolved.
My system information is as follows: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2; Norton Internet Security 18.6.0.29; browsers IE 9 (Monday, April 18, 2011) update version 9.0.2 (Wednesday, June 15, 2011) and Mozilla Firefox 5.0.1 (Friday, August 12, 2011).
Thanks for your help!

Hello masteryoda1041,
Sorry for the delayed response. Can you tell us what risks were removed by Norton?
If the issue still persists with Firefox, I would first go to Start > Run and type %temp% click OK and then delete all the contents of that folder.
I would then open Firefox > Tools > Clear Recent History and in that dialogue box, under Time Range and Details, select 'Everything'.
In the mean time, I will see if I can get one of our resident Firefox experts to jump in here.

As an addendum to my previous post, it has been suggested that it might help to know what tabs are being opened automatically.
Thanks!

Yes, I can - tracking cookies.
As you suggested, I deleted everything from the 'temp' folder and cleared 'everything' from my Firefox history. I also restarted my computer after attempting your suggestions. These steps did not solve the problem.

Understood.
And what are the tabs that keep opening?

The tabs that are being opened automatically are just my Facebook news feed screen. The problem occurs once I have logged in to my Facebook account. NOTE: I ONLY HAVE FIREFOX SETUP TO OPEN ONE WEBSITE (HTTP://WWW.FACBOOK.COM/) IN ONE TAB.

Do you have the Facebook Toolbar installed?

Another Mozilla Forum thread mentioning the Facebook Toolbar as a suspect:

Yes, I do - disabling it seems to have fixed the problem. I wasn't even thinking about the Facebook Toolbar. I will now set Firefox as my default browser again.
Thank you!
