Full System Scan/135,000 skipped files.

[ Edited ]

Specs:-Windows 7 Professional

Quad core Procss

4 GB Ram

NIS 2011

I have always had nis on this computer and it is up to date as is windows.

What i am getting is very baffling  full scan results, one scan will scan 417,000 files, the full system then the next full scan will only scan 177,000 files with 135,000 skipped, even this is does not add up to the first total. Then i will do another scan ,say the next day and it scans 417,000 files again, then say the following day and it only scans 177,000 files again.

Has any-one any idea why this is,is it a bug in nis?

I do appreciate that after a full scan some files will be skipped as they are trusted files but surely not 135,000 and then the next scan going back to over 400,000 files.

Re: Full System Scan/135,000 skipped files.

Hi pcah9,

Trusted FIles and Skipped Files are two separate entries in the scan file count.  The number of Skipped Files can vary significantly from scan to scan, as you have discovered.  Skipped FIles are those that were scanned previously and have not changed in the meantime.  When you rescan using the same definitions file, these files are skipped.  However, if a new definitions set has been obtained through LiveUpdate, which occurs automatically once or twice a day if enabled, then these known good files will be included in the next scan to make sure that all files have been checked for the very latest threats using the most recent signatures.
