Getting blue screen after installing NIS 2010

I have recently installed NIS 2010. Installation went smooth, no obvious problems. But when I shut down the computer or try to log off I get a blue screen. There is no mention of any drivers that crashed, so this makes it alot more difficult to figure out the problem. Also in security history, there are error submissions saying that error conditions have been detected.

I have since gone back to NIS 2009 as 2010 was slow and the blue screen problem was annoying. Any ideas as to why this was happening?

Re: Getting blue screen after installing NIS 2010

What OS and Service Pack do you use?
And do you have any other security program(s) on the machine? Or any beta software?
Thanks.

Re: Getting blue screen after installing NIS 2010

How did you installed 2010?
Did you removed NIS2009 via the Norton Removal Tool or just simply installed 2010 over 2009?

This can be important, as sometimes by an "over-install" there can be left files from the older version, and this can cause error(s).
If you installed 2010 this way, try this:

0. Backup your Identity Safe data in the Settings (if you this function)
1. Download the 2010 setup package
2. Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT: www.norton.com/nrt)
3. Uninstall 2009
4. Reboot
5. Run NRT 2-3 times
6. Reboot
7. Install 2010
8. Activate it with your product key
9. Run Live Update until you get no other updates

Let us know the results.

Re: Getting blue screen after installing NIS 2010

Hi.  I have tried it both ways. I first did a clen install using NRT  and I got the blue screen error. I then went back to 2009 and tried the over install method, and I still got the blue screen. So don't think there is much point in doing this as I have already done it.

Thanks for the advice though!.

And did you used Live Update until it had no other updates available?
Maybe there's a patch for something on the LU servers what will solve the error.

EDIT: What is the version number of your NIS2009? (16.??.??.??)

Yes liveupdate said no more updates. Using version 16.7.2.11 at the moment. I seem to be the only one having this problem! Strange.

Re: Getting blue screen after installing NIS 2010

OK, I have an other idea:
Install 2010, run LU until there's no more. Then turn off one function on the main screen of NIS (i.e. E-mail scanning), and then do a logoff/reboot. Check it for every part of NIS, maybe this way we can find out which part of NIS is causing the error.

Let us know the results.

PS: do this only if you have time
If not, compress the files reported in your error log, and upload them here changing the extension of the compressed file (zip, rar, ace, etc.) to txt or log, and maybe someone will know from them what you have to change.
