Got unsolicited call from someone wanting to help check for malware

[ Edited ]

I told them I have NIS 2012 and Malwarebytes(free) and he said he didn't know my e-mail address and was calling me to help me check my computer for malware, due to the rash of trojans infecting Windows, He was vague about where he was from(some company I've never heard of) but had a Indian accent (which was o.k ) and just wanted to help me check , he was stalling in telling me what to do, I hung up on him............Best Gorpy1

Thank God for people that can help!!!

Hi Gorpy1,

You have did the right thing.  This is a known scam we see here all to often.  Sometimes they will tell you they are Microsoft Tech Support,  or whatever.  Microsoft,  or other reputable companies do not cold call and do not no if we are infected or not.

Never allow them access to your PC.  Just hang up.

Dave.

Haha,  probably not my best work.

They more than likely would have went to Event Viewer to show errors - which we all have,  but can be a little disturbing if you don't know what you are looking at.

Stay safe,

Dave.
