Hard Drive wiped clean, how do I activate product I already paid for without paying again?

I bought a new PC in December of 09

I installed Norton in April of 2010

The hard drive and power supply failed, and the manufacturer replaced both.  I lost all products I installed, activated etc when I sent PC back.

Norton shows I purchased product, but does not show a way to reinstall same product without paying again for a new key.  My old key still has 300 days left on it, I would prefer to use that one.

No good way to get help on this

typical company I guess, want my money, but don't want to help me use their product?

Hello jIM_Ohio and welcome!

I'm sure we can assist you in getting your product reinstalled using your current key which still has 300 days left on it.

First, we will have to know which Norton Product and version (year) you were using. Once we have that information, we can direct you to the proper product download location.

We look forward to hearing back from you!

No reason to complain. Log into your Norton accoint.

Hello jiM_Ohio

Please give customer support a call via the free chat program. Please explain to them what has happened and have the name of the product and year handy and any information you have about your purchase. They are the ones who handle subscriptions and activations. Here is the information to reach them

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

If it is indeed Norton Internet Security, you can download NIS 2010 here.  This will give you the latest version.

Note that this link is to the USA/CAN website so if you are located elsewhere I'm sure you will be able to find the equivalent location on your local Symantec website; some pages have a link at the top right where you can select the country you are located in.

Once the product has installed, you will need to enter your activation key, which can be copied from your Norton Account.

Since you have had a major hardware change, I would recommend contacting Customer Support as listed in the previous post. This will assure that you do not lose any of your remaining activations.

<< My old key still has 300 days left on it, I would prefer to use that one. >>

Others have given you the solution -- where to download an installation file for NIS 2010 and where to recover your KEY (your Norton Account which you can access once you install NIS and it asks you to activate just click on Norton Account and log in -- if you don't remember your log in ID and password then Customer Support can give it to you).

What I want to mention is that the clock on the subscription runs from when you first installed and will have been still running when your reinstall so you will lose those down-time days so far as the database is concerned.

However it would not surprise me -- I'm not saying it will happen -- if when you CHAT with Customer Support and explain how long the system was down due to hardware failure that they might add a bit of time on to take that into account. I've not heard of them doing this but I have heard that they are extremely nice and helpful and I have heard of them adding some days when people had a problem. You've nothing to lose by asking!

Use the link given to you and use the online CHAT via your computer rather than using phone and email both of which can sometimes be very slow to answer.

Do let us know how it all works out.
