Re: Help Needed With Restart After Threat!!!!!!!

When the PC restarts hit F8 and choose last known good configuration. If that works then do not power off or reboot and reply to here that it is now up.

I did that and nothing, keeps doing what it has been. All it does is show the windows xp logo and shuts down and restarts.

it probably removed some system file - so you need to get a XP cd, boot it up, and select repair

not sure if you have any recovery options when you boot the pc up - but you can also try pressing: r, F9, F11 and F12 randomly when you're booting the pc up - if you have the recovery option, you won't need a XP cd

Using the recovery method all personal data etc will be gone. Better to try the XP repair first.

mannyc, did you only press the F8 key once? You need to tap the key repeatedly during the initial boot process until you get the boot options menu.

Re: Help Needed With Restart After Threat!!!!!!!

where can i purchase or acquire an xp cd???

yes i pushed the f8 button more than once to review options, but nothing worked.

a message came up sayin "This application failed to start because user32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

no it won't - there are two options when you open it up, you can repair system files without loosing any other files etc - or you can format the whole HDD and get it to the same state as when you 1st booted it up
