Help needed with Identity Safe data restore on new computer

Our laptop motherboard failed yesterday.  I have a new computer running Windows 7 and I have installed Norton Internet Security (Version 19.6.2.10) from my account.  I did not have a current backup (.npm) of my Identity Safe data.  We were only using the local version and had not enable the cloud sync.

I do have access to my old hard drive to transfer data to the new machine - I have located the folder IdentitySafeDataStore.  I have followed prior posts in the forums to create a new Identity Safe, then disabled the product protection and replaced the files IDDStor2.dat on the new machine and restarted.

When I now try to open the Identity Safe I get the message "Unable to logon to your vault at this time."

Any help would be appreciated to access the data

Thank you.

Re: Help needed with Identity Safe data restore on new computer

Hello paulroberts31 and welcome!

The 'old' data can be imported directly into the new NIS 2012 installation.  You should not try to replace the folder contents as in earlier versions.

  1. Copy your old Identity Safe data to a new folder in a convenient location on your computer. (Just in case)
  2. Since you are having trouble logging in, delete the current Identity Safe Profile. (Main UI > Settings > Web > Identity Safe and select Delete Data > Configure [+]
  3. Create a new profile in the same window by logging into Identity Safe and following the Set Up procedure.
  4. In the Identity Safe Settings Window select Import Data > Configure [+]
  5. In the Import Identity Safe Data window, 'Browse' to the new folder you just created in step 1
  6. Double click the folder to open it and select IDDStore or IDDStor2 > Open.
  7. Under 'While importing data', select 'Merge with existing data' and click OK. You may be prompted to enter the password for the old data.
  8. If you have changed any login credentials for a particular site since the older data was created, you will be presented with a Data Conflict window.  Select which login version you wish to keep and click OK.
  9. OK your way out and check that the merged logins have been added and are working.

Let us know how you do.
