That was fast - your service is amazing. I do have a Trial version of NAV 2011 (I purchased 2010 in November, I believe) so I'll start with your instructions now.

Hi aSillySurfer,

I've been tracking your issue over at Bleeping so I saw pretty quickly when quietman7 gave the all clear. :smileyhappy: Be sure to use the download link I provided for NAV 2011 and not the one you downloaded before. This will ensure that you get the correct and latest one.

Best wishes.

Re: Help re-installing Norton AntiVirus.

To clarify - You want me to download the Removal Tool, and ALSO download the NAV 2011 from your link before running the Removal Tool? (This NAV2011 is the same version I downloaded after my original NAV stopped working.)

Yes you should download both before running the removal tool. I provided the link for NAV 2011 because I'm not sure what link you used to download it before and this will ensure that you have the correct one.

Best wishes.

When I tried enterring my Product Key again it told me my subscription is for Noron Internet Security. It did not tell me that before.

EDIT: Should that alter my course of action? Or should I still proceed to use the Removal Toolon the NAV 2011

HI aSillySurfer,

This might explain the difficulty earlier with your subscription status. Did you purchase Norton online or a boxed version? I would suggest that you double check your confirmation email or your CD box to confirm for sure which Norton product your subscription is for. If it is not for NIS then please let me know before proceeding so I can make sure of what link to give you.

I hate to say this but you will need to run the Norton removal tool again since we will now need to switch to Norton Internet Security (NIS).

Please proceed as follows.

Download NIS 2011 and save to your desktop.

Disconnect from the internet again and uninstall NAV through control panel. Reboot and then run the Norton removal tool once followed by a reboot.

Install NIS 2011 and connect back to the Internet and reboot your computer. Go ahead and try to enter your product key again to make sure it takes it this time. Then as before run live update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.

After this you should run a full scan as NIS is pretty aggressive in getting that first full scan completed.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi aSillySurfer,

You can also check your Norton Account which will show you not only what your product key is but which Norton product it goes with.

Best wishes.

I will do that - I should be the one apologizing, it was my mistake. I appreciate your helpfulness.

EDIT: Norton Internet Security 2010 Subscription Renewal (1 year subscription) - I purchased online.

Thanks for confirming that. Just so there is no misunderstanding about how this works. You should still download and install NIS 2011 and not 2010. Your 2010 subscription and product key is good for NIS 2011 also.

Product keys are just not interchangeable between different products like NAV and NIS.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Re: Help re-installing Norton AntiVirus.

After downloading the NIS 2011 I went to Support > Subscription Status, and it says I have 347 days left. It looks like it worked, and it was simply my own ignorance that was preventing me from doing this. Thank you for all of your help, I think it's case closed?

Hi aSillySurfer,

Thanks very much for the update. Did you run live update (rebooting as requested) until there were no more updates?

Also, please run a full system scan and let it complete. This will set the stage for the automatic weekly IDLE full scans which will follow.

And yes I think you are good to go now. :smileyhappy:

Best wishes. Happy holidays if you live in a location which celebrates this time of year.
