Hidden Files..

I am XP SP2 user... I just installed Norton IS 2010 and joined to community...

I could not show my hidden files...  Changing in 'folder options' means notting...

I was thinking that this is because of an virus infection and I made full check up by NIS but no still no result...

Is this because of a trojan or virus??..

Would you please help me: how can I turned show hidden files option??..

Re: Hidden Files..

Hello OZDEMIRK

Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum

What is the version number of your NIS that you have just installed? Did you have a previous security program installed before NIS 2010? If you did, how was the previous security program removed? Do you have any other real time security programs installed now? Did you have this problem with hidden files before you installed NIS 2010?

Re: Hidden Files..

Hi Kayhan,

I also noticed that you are on XP SP 2. You should really upgrade to XP SP 3 as soon as possible. Not only is SP 2 out of date but it also will not be supported by Microsoft after July 13th.

Re: Hidden Files..

NIS version is 17.7.0.12

Before NIS I was using Esset NOD32 Anti Virus program.... I removed previous one using its uninstall feature... I'm not using any other real time protection... Yes, I have this problem for a while...

I was thinking NIS will solve but not...

Re: Hidden Files..

If you are not logged in as the Administrator (with Administrator privledges) then you will not be able to view the hidden files.  Please check your User account level in Control Panel > Users and see if you are member of the Administrator group.

You can also enable this by editing the Registry via regedit.  In a Run window (Windows key+R), type regedit and press Enter. In the left pane navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. In the right pane, double-click Hidden and give it a value of 1 (one).

Let us know how you progress in this.

Re: Hidden Files..

Registry editing worked, I found my lost files :)) thanks to you but after I re-mark "hide hidden files and folders", I need to go regedit to make hidden files appear....

Re: Hidden Files..

Hello OZDEMIRK

It looks like something may have messed up that part of your registry then. Perhaps a HiJackThis log may shed some light on this problem.

Please download HiJackThis from http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ Choose the executable and save it on your desktop. Run the file and select the first option on the main menu "Do a system scan and save a log file". When this is finished, Notepad will open with the log file in it. Save the log file and attach it to a post here via the Add Attachments Please don't attempt to fix anything that it shows until someone checks out the log. Thanks.

Please come back and post the log. If it does turn out that you have some malware and it gets cleaned up, I also would strongly suggest that you update to sp3. It should be done on a clean computer however. You are missing a lot of protection that would be available with sp3 installed.
