Hi, soz to everyone if this question is already posted, but i didn't see it.
Question 1: I am not asking what is the latest version (I think 16.5.? is on its way) but wondering how I am meant to tell what is the latest version out there? Can't seem to find a page on Symantec that says, the latest version is 16.2.0.7 or whatever, but maybe I am looking in the wrong spot?
Question 2: Do these version updates (say from 16.2.0.7 to 16.5.? happen through liveupdate automatically or do i need to do all this manually. If need to manually download and install does it happily install over the top of my existing version?
Cheers
Stephen

1) The only place you will find a version number stated is here in the forum. Otherwise, Norton only references NIS 2009. The latest installer of the full version from Norton produces version 16.2.0.7 .
2) So far, all version updates have happened through automatic updates. Only Norton / Symantec personnel know if that will ever change (for example, if there were a drastic change in the program and you had to uninstall and reinstall to correctly load files).
Hope this answers your questions.

Hi Stephen,

Almost, all the Norton programs have a section in the Help & Support called "About...". There you can find Version, Account Id/Serial number, SKU etc.
Question 2: Do these version updates (say from 16.2.0.7 to 16.5.? happen through liveupdate automatically or do i need to do all this manually. If need to manually download and install does it happily install over the top of my existing version?
It will be automatically updated to your computer if you have enabled the Automatic LiveUpdate in your Norton program, but it's just the nick of time when it is available in the LiveUpdate server intended for your region. Hope you may have read the post of Tim's regarding the release of 16.5 patch.

If you didn't get the latest version even after the global release of 16.5 patch, then you may need to try your luck with manually running LiveUpdate and wait forit to update your Norton program to latest version.

Since no one is answering your question, it will be up to me.
No, you cannot determine what the newest version is, unless you chance upon someone who has discovered it. Like we who inhabit these boards and understand (somewhat) Symantec's dissemination policy.
Yes, this is weird.
Most software purveyors let you know the current version (and build). Symantec seems afraid to do so. Probably because of the frenzy everyone seems to get into when they discover there is a build being handed out from somewhere and they haven't received it yet.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Yes it does seem weird they do not make it obvious.
