How do I change Polish to English?

Recently bought an Alienware Aurora, from what I assume to be a Polish guy. The PC is great, apart from the fact that Norton Internet Security seems to be in Polish. I have no idea how to change it back to English. Any help would be brilliant!

Many thanks! x

Re: How do I change Polish to English?

Hi JackG:

If the Norton product is an activated product rather than a trial, you should remove it and purchase your own version.  If activated, it is connected to his Mynorton account, and any renewals you purchase will be available for his use as well as yours.  Should you need to go to the Norton website for any reason, you will not have access to his account.

When you purchase your own subscription, you will be able to choose the language on installation.

If you continue to use this one until expired, you will still need to remove it, download the product again and choose the language for the installation.  You will need further instructions for this.  Let us know what you decide to do.  There are some very inexpensive deals on last year's products that will still activate 2011.

Re: How do I change Polish to English?

You can use keys across languages, but remember that if it's an original Polish license and you download via the Norton Download Manager dialog, you will automatically get the Polish version again. If it's an original English license, you get the English version.

But if you don't know, there is a circumvention :

1. download the English version from here :

www.norton.com/nis11

2. Download the Norton Removal Tool from here :

www.norton.com/symnrt

2. go to Programs and Features and uninstall NIS.

3. run the downlaoded Norton Removal Tool, in case there are language incompatibilities and reboot

Note : NRT will dlete all your Norton programs, so you also will have to reinstall them all.

You can try to leave this step out, if you do not want to install the other programs again.

4. Install the downloaded English version of NIS. The key will still be on your system, so the days left should appear in your Norton main screen.

You can always save your key from here, before uninstall :

C:\ProgramData\Norton\00000082

In one of the subdirectories (choose the latest created) there is a file 'key.txt'.

Next time you buy Norton, buy the English version (Delphinium can help you with some deals); only enter your key and all is ok.

Do not extend your subscription with Norton, as then the key of the oroigonak version is extended.

Re: How do I change Polish to English?

HI JackG,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

I am a little confused about something. When you purchased the computer, did the other person not remove Norton first? Have you been continuing to use that person's product KEY or did you purchase your own subscription?

I would like to clarify one other thing for you as well. The default language for your Norton program is tied to the product KEY used to activate it. You can remove this and install the English version but do not go to Support > New Version Check or otherwise visit the Norton Update center. If you do it will attempt to automatically download the product in the default language. Installing the English version manually will work however.

Also be sure to purchase new product keys (subscription renewal) from a vendor with English since that is your desired language. Once you renew your Norton subscription with an English product key then any future visit to the Norton Update center will download updates in English.

Note that none of this affects the normal daily live updates which run every day. These updates will come down in the language of the version currently installed.

Re: How do I change Polish to English?

Wow I did not realise any of this. When I bought the computer it listed it had NIS, which was one of the selling points. Obviously this makes no difference here, but just wanted to get that across. I'll uninstall it now and install a trial. Thanks!

Re: How do I change Polish to English?

Hello JackG

A trial version will require  you to subscribe it by the end of the trial period. Once the trial period ends and you have not inserted a new key where it says subscribe, it will stop working completely.. So please make sure you get an English version before the trial runs out. Thanks.

[ Edited ]

I think if he uses an English trial version then all he has to do is enter the 'Polish' key and it will continue for the amount of time left on the original Polish version NIS for it to continue! (In the new English version).
