How do i safely remove Norton antivirus to install Internet security?

Hello, I recently purchased the Norton Internet security 2012. Currently I am using Norton Antivirus 2012. Since the internet security has everything the antivirus does, i no longer need it and i want to uninstall it. How do i safely remove my antivirus to replace it with my internet security?

Thank you.

Since so much of the two are in common, if NAV is working OK then I'd just start the installation process for NIS 2012 in the normal way since the first thing it does is to uninstall a previous version.

If you had had say Norton 360 or a very old version of NAV then more might be needed but you should be OK.

Do you have any unexpired time left on your NAV? That will be lost but make a note of it and when NIS is installed let us know and we can give you a link to Norton Support who may be able to add the NAV unexpired time to the new NIS time.

If you bought NIS 2012 on disk then it will be very out of date and need a lot of updating so you may prefer to download this file if you are using the English language version since it is much more uptodate:

New NIS 2012:

Click on this link -- NIS 2012

This will download a single file of around 90MB which you should save on your hard drive where you can use it again if necessary -- Do not select Run but use Save when asked and remember where you put it!

Then when you are ready to install it just double click on it to start the process.

When the installation is completed then run LiveUpdate manually several times with a restart inbetween until it says you are fully uptodate ..... it should be 19.7.1.5 or higher if anything has come out that I don't know about!

Let us know if you have any questions and how you get on.,

Hi owenmyers,

Uninstall NAV the normal way from Control Panel and reboot,  then run the Norton Removal Tool,  reboot again.  Now you should be OK to install NIS,  Remember to run Live Update,  rebooting where required,  until no more updates are available.

Dave.

Edit:  Or do it Hugh's way.  :smileywink:

Reboot is the same as restart.

If you contact Customer Support,  they may be able to add your remaining time to NIS,  but no promises.  Live Chat is often the quickest.  You can reach them here .  -  http://www.norton.com/chat

Re: How do i safely remove Norton antivirus to install Internet security?

I think i will pass on trying to move the extra days over because it will probably not be working too well in 2013. I will try to remove my NAV right now and i will let you know if anything goes wrong. Thanks for your help.

Up to you,  of course,  but why not try gaining the extra 165 days to your NIS subscription?  I know I would.

Re: How do i safely remove Norton antivirus to install Internet security?

You can kick meif I am wrong but you could try following my suggested procedure which is more simple than the others, which are correct but generally used when there is a problem or, as I said, a major change of product.

Asking Norton to add together your two periods of subscription that you have paid for even if for different Norton products will have no effect on 2013, if you mean gettting those products because with a subscription that is valid you can update to the next versions free of charge.

It is something that Norton Support, if they can do it, adjust in their database and the only change you would see is the extra days after you click on Subscription Status under Support ....

But it is all up to you, it's your computer.
