My PC recently died completely, couldn't even get to the main screen so have purchased a new one. I had installed Norton Internet Security/Anti Virus from a 2006 disc and have renewed my subscription online every year thereon. I have read other posts relating to this subject but not being very technically minded wondered if someone could tell me in simple terms how to get Norton on my new PC as I still have time left on my subscription.
Do I need to re-install the 2006 disc that I still have? Or do I just need to download everything off the internet? Sorry, I am totally confused and want to make sure I do things right and not leave myself open to any virus etc.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi ellectrastar, welcome to the Norton Community :-)
Since you still have a running subscription for NIS 2006, you can upgrade for free to NIS 2010. Since your old computer is dead (by which I assume that the hard drive, too, is completely dead), you still have your licence and can install NIS 2010 on your new computer and use your NIS 2006 product key to activate it; your remaining subscription days will be transferred to NIS 2010.
All you have to do is the following: you can download the full NIS 2010 installation package from here, so you don't need a disc:
Before installing NIS 2010 on your new computer, please fetch your product key from your Norton account, print it out and keep it handy:
https://www.mynortonaccount.com/amsweb/default.do
Then you install NIS 2010 and activate it with your product key :-) Your subscription days will be transferred from NIS 2006 to NIS 2010 in this manner within a few seconds. It is very straightforward.
If you run into any difficulties with your subscription or with activating your Norton product, you can go to Symantec Customer Support over here:

I'd just like to add one thing to Yaso's excellent and complete route map and that is that experience has shown -- as recently as yesterday -- that the best route to use to Customer Support if you do have a problem with the activation or duration of your existing subscription is the Online CHAT which is a dialog via the keyboard of your computer.
Many users have had problems with telephone or email and then come back saying the CHATA sorted it out immediately. They have the tools and access to the databases which others do not.
Do let us know how it goes.

You can choose CHAT or Email; phone may have a long wait time.
Note that that link is to the USA/CAN website so if you are located elsewhere I'm sure you will be able to find the equivalent location on your local Symantec website; some pages have a link at the top right where you can select the country you are located in.
