I have just installed NIS 09 and Norton Utilities onto a Panasonic Toughbook. I cannot logon onto the network unless the tablet has been shut down long enough to flush the RAM. When the tablet has to reboot after any program or update installation, it won't until I shut it down for a couple of minutes. If the tablet is in Standby or Hibernate when it is docked, I can start it up and it will joint the network. To add to this, if I take the tablet off the docking station when it does a reboot, I still cannot logon locally.
This tablet was built up by me with all new legal programs. It worked properly until I loaded Norton products. All other laptops and tablets that are part of the network do not have this problem. They do not use any Symantec products. The server uses Symantec network Antivirus.
Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on and why the handshake does not work locally or remotely?
Thanks in advance.

Any other security software installed?
What OS do you have installed? And how much memory do you have?

Thanks for replying
I am using XP Pro and I am not using any other security software. The suggetion to reset the firewall did not work. I get an error message that tells me; that I cannot connect to the domain because either the domain controller is down or because I don't have an account. If I keep getting this error then contact myself. The DC is up and the Admin account if very valid.
I keep coming back to the logon handshake. I don't think it gets that far. I don't think it really has anything to do with the network. The problem is local.
If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them
Thanks

I've seen this happen on some Pro systems on the connection to the Domain. Are you running any kind of logon scripts? Or VPN connectors? One thing to help would be to reset the network by doing the following:
You can try to flush your DNS and resetting the winsock.
1. Click Start > Run, type ipconfig /flushdns and click OK.
2. Click Start > Run, type cmd and click OK.
3. in the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each line:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt [Enter]
netsh winsock reset [Enter]
exit [Enter]

Thanks for all your help. I have tried everything that I could thing of and more. The suggestions were great, I had forgotten two of them. I have spent a lot of my time trying to get this problem solved. I had better start doing my job again. If I cannot find the magic combination, I will do a clean install and not load Norton until everything else is loaded. I will ghost my drive and then load NIS. If it does not work then, I will just ghost over my drive.
I do not use login scripts nor any tunnelling protocols. The kicker is that the tablet will not allow me to logon locally even when it is not connected to the domain. The problem has to be something to do with the logon but what?
Again thanks for your help

Hi,
Could you try to disable Intrusion Prevention and see if that solves the problem?
