This is for future reference since it looks like Symantec might have a fix; but two things:
1. You should never need to delete your favorites since the existence of this data has no impact on the actual working of Internet Explorer;
2. but if you do want to save your favorites or even transfer them to another computer, you can click (while in IE) on File>Import and Export and select export and favorites; and IE will make a backup copy of your favorites to use where and when you need.

You can export them.

What is your IE home page currently set to? Since you can't launch IE presently can you go to Control Panel -> Internet Options and let me know the site currently set there. Also, if you set the home page to 'about:blank' by clicking the 'Use Blank' button, does IE launch for you?

I don't know if this means anything, but I set my homepage to about:blank and last night when I went into internet options to check and make sure it was still the same it had changed to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/fix_

Hi Joyce
Sorry it is still not working. In a post yesterday Desi_T indicated that a fix should have been ready for release last evening. Could you do a manual liveupdate and then see if that has corrected the issue and let us know.
Thanks

Thanks for your response, mdturner. I did the manual when I started the computer this morning, then I tried IE and it closed, so I did it again. I just went and did another and it still won't open.
HI Joyce
Thanks for confirming that. DesiT will, no doubt, be looking at this at some stage and will be interested in following up.
