I uninstalled NIS (I forgot the version) and now Windows Vista won't boot.

I uninstalled NIS (I forgot the version) and now Windows Vista won't boot in normal, Safe Mode, or Last Known Successful Boot.

It has the Microsoft loading bar, and the hard disk light blinks at normal interval. (In Safe Mode, it gets stuck loading files and the light blinks.)

The Microsoft loading bar disappears in a minute and the light keeps blinking.

NIS seems like a virus.

My home language is English. I did not type the title wrong.

Norton Internet Security seems like a virus.

I tried to uninstall it.

It said I had to restart.

I restarted.

NOTHING would boot.

I tried putting in the Win Vista install disk. I clicked repair.

It kept searching and searching for installations.

Let me check on it....still searching.

Now I have to reinstall Windows, because of Norton.

I HATE NORTON. NORTON IS SUCH A PAIN.

Hi,

It sounds like something 'nasty' has gotten into your computer. Norton is good but it isn't perfect. Problems can/will happen.

Once you reinstall the operating system. Reinstall your Norton product. After you have both up to date be sure to run a full scan. The reinstall may not have gotten all of the bits and bytes of the 'nasty' cleaned out.

Please report back on your progress. One of us will be here and the light's always on.

Hi,

I'm not sure the two events are related. Why were you uninstalling NIS and how. To remove all of the bits and bytes of NIS you really need to run the Norton Removal Tool forund here: http://www.symantec.com/nrt/

Keep us in the loop

coco,

Please don't duplicate post -- I'll ask a moderator to combine your two so people don't answer more than once.

Re: NIS seems like a virus.

I tried to uninstall NIS with some feature in Control Panel that I forgot the name of. I was setting up a computer that was unused and broken for 3 years that I fixed. It was not plugged into the internet.

I'm typing this with the Vista computer, and everything's fine.

No Norton. Malwarebytes, not Norton.
