IPS Statistical Submissions---offending url ---This Forum ! ! !

Hello

I have noticed that so far I have had 2 IPS Statistical Submissions since Monday. The offending url is from this Forum. The one from Monday was from me reading one thread in the NAV/NIS section of the Forum.  As you know, I read many threads in the Forum, but only 1 was submitted.

I saw just before that I have another one that is now pending also from the Forum. This time however, it is from reading a post from the N360 section of the Forum. As has been mentiolned by me in another thread, I have been getting them when I click on a link that is in a thread and it leads to an outside site. I get that warning that says you are about to leave the Forum. I don't have to go to the link. That warning is enough to set it off.  But now it is being submitted for readint a thread. I don't know if it is going to submit one from each section of the Forum that I read or what. I guess I am the only one who is having a problem with this since nothing was done when I first mentioned the problem of clicking on links to outside the Forum.. Thank goodness they not getting submitted for every thread that I read or post in.

It's from 2 different IPS definition updates also. Odd though that this just started on Monday before the new IPS definitions came out and has continued with the new ones also except as of now, it's still pending. Maybe the 2nd one won't get sent in if it's still pending now.

Hello

I have another IPS statistical submission and this Forum is the offending url. The IP involved is 208.74.204.196.  The NAV part of System Works reporting it. This is the 3rd time since Monday morning....

I just got one for subscribing to a Topic...

offending URL is community.norton.com/t5/forums [...]addthereaduseremailsubscription/[...]

Is that what you're referring to?

Hello

Yes, something similar, but I haven't subscribed to any threads. I got those 3 so far for just clicking on a thread and reading it. It lists the name of the thread. I just got another one now, about 10 minutes ago. So now it's like 4 of them since Monday morning. I tried doing a tracert and it goes to Lithium and then times out...... I've read a lot more than 4 threads since Monday morning also...

Re: IPS Statistical Submissions---offending url ---This Forum ! ! !

Hello

I just logged into the Forum this morning like a few minutes ago and already 3 more submissions. Am I not wanted in the Forum or something?  Can a Norton Employee please respond?  Using XP Pro Sp 3 fully updated, IE 7 and System works 12 Standard, but it's NAV 2009 with the latest update that is doing this and getting more frequent now. I don't even have to post, I just read the threads and it happens. Is anyone else getting this or just me and bjm? I been complaining about getting these submissions since last year when I click on links in threads that lead to outside the Forum sites, but now it has got worse if it is triggering these submissions every time I read a thread.... Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

[ Edited ]

As you've mentioned, I only get the 'IPS Detection Statistical Submission' History log events which name a thread on this forum as being the 'Offending URL' when I click on a link in a post that points to an external site.

I'm running Vista 32 Home Premium SP2 with NIS 2010 17.6.0.32 and IE8. To reproduce the issue, click on this link and click on the link to the external site. The moment the dialog box below is displayed, an IPS Detection is recorded in the NIS 2010 History Log. I'd be interested to see if Firefox users experience the same issue, or whether it's just a problem with Internet Explorer. I'm sure a Firefox user will try it out and respond accordingly. Again, this issue has been around for quite some time and I'm also wondering why it hasn't been fixed yet.

I put the following, on the N360 Forum and got the "Official Answer".
I wonder if the link and info fits this thread ?

Hi elsewhere

You requested feedback from Firefox users per this issue >

click'd on your link to other thread > click'd on link to external site and my activity did not render entry to History log....the external site did render a red warning / block from WOT... but, no 'IPS Detection Statistical Submission'

Re: IPS Statistical Submissions---offending url ---This Forum ! ! !

Hello

No, I don't think that official answer really answer this problem. I started seeing these statistical submissions last week yet before the latest IPS definitions came out. The problem isn't the number of submissions being larger or more frequent. The problem is that the submissions that are being shown are from THIS FORUM and it only occurs just by clicking on a thread, not even posting in it. I also reported the problem last year with getting these statistical submissions every time you click on a link to an outside site like the notice that is shown above. I guess nothing was done to fix that problem since last year either when I brought it up then. At least I am not the only one getting these submissions, but some thing is wrong when the submissions are from clicking on posts from this Forum and when it started happening yet in the previous release of IPS definitions.

I gave the answer in another thread when I mentioned Reese's explanation which was better than mine. But in this case it's Lithium that is coming up and as a result of clicking on different threads.in the Forum. I haven't clicked on any outside links lately to see if that is still happening to me also, but there was no official response when I was mentioning this problem last year. For months there was no adjustment of the IPS definitions or what ever so this wouldn't keep showing up.
