IPS update for Mozilla 3.6

I just did a live update for NIS 2010 and i got a product update. I guess that it was the IPS update and when I check on the forum, there was no official announcement of it even though the update i got has made IPS 2.0 now compatible with Firefox 3.6  I was wondering if symantec actually update their post before they issue the update or do they issue it when it is release for everyone.

Before making the patch update available to everone, the update will be made available to some of the users. And once Symantec ensures that there is no issues raised due to it, the update will be made available to everyone.

This is the reason for not updating the post.

Re: IPS update for Mozilla 3.6

This may sound odd, but I received a "Product Update" through LiveUpdate on Feb 9. Since that time the Norton IPS (2.0) has not shown as 'Incompatible' in Firefox 3.6. However the Download Intelligence/Download Insight Notifications still do not appear after I download an .exe file.

If there is no IPS version change with the Firefox 3.6 update how do I know if this Product Update was the 3.6 "fix" or not, and, if it is, why isn't Download Insight giving me notifications on .exe downloads? Yes, I have NIS set to Always give me notifications.

The problem is on your end because on my system it functions as expected. Maybe your downloads get redirected (using FlashGot maybe?) and don't use the usual Firefox download procedure?

No, I'm definitely using the browser to download. I do have Internet Download Manager installed but it does not take over downloads of .exe files. Screenshot below. I guess I'll uninstall and reinstall Firefox to see if that might make it work. Otherwise I'm stumped.

edit: Well, reinstalling Firefox didn't fix the issue. I do see that downloads using IE8 produce both the notification pop-up and an entry in NIS> History> Download Insight. In Firefox 3.6, no pop-up & no entry in History. :smileysad:

Ideas, suggestions?

Another thing you can try is rejuvenating your profile. Make a backup of your bookmarks, and a list of your add-ons, and then do a full uninstall of Firefox (deleting profile included). Then reinstall, restore the backed-up bookmarks and reinstall the add-ons.

That seems to have solved the problem. Many thanks, TomiRed!!!
