Identity Safe Login

I have successfully used Web Protection/ Login for some websites but a recent attempt to set up a new one leads me to the correct site page and prompting me to enter my username and password.  If I just click on Login a message that the username or password is incorrect appears. If I manually enter the username and password it opens the required site page but I wanted to avoid having to manually enter which was the advantage of Identity Safe.

What have I done or not done?

Verify that the login page/site URL matches the Manage Logins URL for that page/site.

Copy/Paste the sites login address bar URL and Manage Logins URL to Notepad and compare.

When this happens to me.  I manually create a new login or fix the Manage Logins info to match the page/site URL

Hope this helps

Re: Identity Safe Login

Hello and thanks for replying. I copied and pasted the URL from the web page into the box in Manage Logins but it did not work. I know that the URL has been correctly entered because it takes me to the site where it is requesting my username and password which if I manually enter takes me to the required password protected page. The method works for other URLs.

Re: Identity Safe Login

Hi Robob

Sorry, no luck.

Just recently I had 3 sites that stopped working and Norton Community was among the three.  Go figure.

Even though I was at what appeared to be the correct login page... just as you report and also as you report manually enetering UI / PW worked at the site.  The login site URL did not match the URL in Manage Logins.  So, I was lucky.

Some minor tweaking and they worked again.   I was hoping some tweaking would help you.  :smileysad:

Truth be told... I have one site that always worked and suddenly Ident Safe just would not work with that site.   All my tweaking had no effect.  It just stopped being compatible.  IDK

Would you care to share the site that has the issue.  Maybe users familiar with the site will chime in.

Re: Identity Safe Login

Hi bjm

Not quite sure what you mean by "share the site" but I will try anything that might resolve the problem. Another bit of information that might help you - I have just set up the login on a different computer with the same version of NIS and it works perfectly. I have also setup a new login on the computer which is causing the problem and this works. Does this indicate that there is a glitch in the unworkable one? If no solution is forthcoming do you think it worthwhile in removing NIS and reinstalling?

Thanks for your trouble

Post the site in your reply.  Maybe other users are familiar with the site or may have suggestions.

The Community is user to user help.  Symantec may monitor and may chime in...but, the Forums are user to user support.

Ident Safe has the occasional site that wants to be difficult / becomes difficult.  Ident Safe is simply not compatible with all sites / all the time.   Although rare in my experience.  Users have reported non compatible sites.

The more info you provide may/will help improve Ident Safe in future.

Another bit of information that might help you - I have just set up the login on a different computer with the same version of NIS and it works perfectly.   With computers anything is possible  :smileyhappy:

I have also setup a new login on the computer which is causing the problem and this works.

As I mentioned...sometimes manually creating a new Ident Safe Login scenario helps.  (If I understand your comment that new login works and old login still does not)  My reference earlier to "tweaking".  I'm sharing my  experience user to user.  I've had sites change their access URL.  The Login page will look identical but, the URL is not.   Simply creating a new or tweaking the old...has worked for me.

Does this indicate that there is a glitch in the unworkable one?   That what I would think. .  As you now have a workable Ident Safe Login scenario for the site.  Then use the one that works.  Delete the unworkable.  If no solution is forthcoming do you think it worthwhile in removing NIS and reinstalling?    No, if your only issue is an occasional unworkable site.  I don't see that as a cause to reinstall.   Besides, you have a new workable login.

So, what would you fix by a NIS reinstall.    Remember to backup your Ident Safe / password protect backup.

Post the problematic site if you want or monitor for awhile and report back.

Thanks
