Just wanted to say I Love how the ip address and port are displayed on the main security screen now on the new NIS. Now i can just scroll past all the blocked alerts that are due to a p2p program or quickly check for odd number of ip attempts. Saves me alot of stress :) I also love the new performance tab. really awsome. Love how i can check almost all activity on my pc for past couple weeks for instance. such as what processes were running what was downloaded so cool. But since i'm here i have a quick question on the idle quick scans. Is there any way to reduce the number of quick scans? I see an option in settings for idle scan which i have set for weekly. But i notice i get quick scanned 3-4 times a day and wondering if i can reduce that to maybe 1? Its just my hdd makes noise now when in use, its on its way out the door and i'm just trying to salvage it haha :) Thanks in advance for all your help, I know for a fact u guys listen on this forum and i appreciate the great experience here.

Hi Cooloutac:
The idle time quick scans only take a few seconds each. There is no way to stop them. They are not quite the same as the idle time full system scan that is run weekly.

Hi,
Whenever a new Set of Virus Definitions are downloaded and installed on your computer a Norton Idle Quick Scan will normaly Run shortly afterwards. The Idle-Time Scan option only applies to Full System Scan, which I would highly-recommend leaving it on Weekly. Hope this helps.

Hello Cooloutac
If you feel your hard drive is on it's way out the door of your computer, I would suggest that you back up everything so that replacement will be easier for you.
The only way really to reduce the number of idle quick scans is to only have your computer on for a short period of time so that all the updates are received at once. The idle quick scans are important though and don't take long at all.

Hello Cooloutac
Idle quick scans take less than 1 minute and occur when there is an antivirus update, usually no more than 3 times a day if your computer is on all the time. You wouldn't even know when they run, they are so quick and unobtrusive.

Hi,
It depends on a number of things, such as how many Files are on your computer, and how much R.A.M. you have. Quick Scans should not take any longer than five minutes, however, most users will be below this.
