Re: Followed Norton rep. instructions, Fb page still "fraudulent"

There was a problem following a change (surprise) on Facebook but Norton have worked out a fix for it and it was included in LiveUpdates recently I understand.

So that could be why you are OK now ....

@JimandGailYeary  You may want to update your Norton product online, which should resolve your problems right away. If not, you could just click "Continue anyway." The Norton Rep did say that it should resolve within 24hrs. I hope this helps.

There has been a problem with facebook following a change there but Norton have a fix which has gone out via LiveUpdate so you should have received it .... If not lrun LiveUpdate manually several times with a restart in between until it tells you that you are fully uptodate.

Re: Incorrectly identifying Facebook as fraudulent.

We’re aware that some Norton fans encountered a security warning page when attempting to access Facebook. We have corrected this issue and delivered a fix via LiveUpdate, which will be downloaded automatically and will resolve the issue.

What happened? Several true fraudulent Facebook-hosted URLs were automatically processed by the Norton Antiphishing server today and a system logic flaw produced the incorrect updates.

We contained the issue by updating our safelist configuration for Facebook in a way which prevents our system from including Facebook URLs on our phishing blocklist. The containment was delivered via LiveUpdate a few hours after the incident was first reported.

We have identified enhancements for the future that will help prevent these type of issues from reoccurring.

If you are still being affected by the issue, please review the following information about applying the update:

  • NIS 2012 users may run LiveUpdate and the configuration change should be applied directly within the LiveUpdate session.

  • Pre-2012 product users will need to run LiveUpdate then wait for the machine to enter idle mode.

For most users with default settings, idle mode will run after 10 minutes of no activity on your machine.

The Norton product settings may be used to temporarily reduce the idle time threshold to 1 minute to make the wait shorter – from the main UI go to “Performance”, then “Norton Tasks”, then change the “Idle Time Out” value to 1 minute.  After the idle condition has occurred, be sure to return the setting back to the original value.

If you are unable to allow your machine to go idle, eventually the Norton product will automatically perform this update regardless of the idle state.

Re: Norton is blocking my Facebook ... VERY annoying. Any help?

Thanks for the update for this. But I must say I have a few things on my mind. 1) when I updated my firefox it told me that the norton toolbar was not compatable. (Does anyone know how to get this fixed by any chance.) But anyways, I didn't have this toolbar when this issued started. So I did the advice that he said and turned off my https through facebook and it's been working fine. But I definitely don't want to keep this off because it being unsecure. 2) I read the reply on the live update but I don't know how to do this, can anyone help me and explain to me how to do this so I can see if it works so I can turn my https back on. Thanks for the help.

Re: Incorrectly identifying Facebook as fraudulent.

I have NIS 2012.  I cleared my browser and ran Live Update -- Facebook is still being blocked intermittently.

Re: Facebook issues

I cleared my cache, updated and cleared my history. None of this worked. So I called them they tried to sell me stuff told me it was a internal problem. I told them thanks but no thanks I didnt want to purchase any thing else hung up and 15 min later bam it worked, go figure!!! call complain, dont buy and thank them, shut down what creates the most line of traffic, people call to fix and then you sell sell sell. Amazing, not sure this was the tactic but come on nortons scan said it was ok, but it was blocked. I like nortons would recommend to anyone, but like anything it has its ups and downs...
