Insight Question

Hi people .

I am new to the community and having a question about Norton Insight

1.I start the computer and then run Norton Insight.

2. I get 100% scan needed for first time ,after refreshing ,85-90% trust....10-15%scan needed.

3.I perform the full system scan , Norton scans whole system.

4.I make another scan , now it scans very less files........(according to Insight results)

5.Whenever I restart the computer and run full system scan , Norton again scans the whole system

even when I have not done any modifications to those trusted files.

6.I think this should not happen,as I am not doing anything to the file.....system should be scanned according to the trust.

7.Is this normal or it should work as described in point 6 ?

8.Also please give some details of the scenario when Norton Insight works

Is this feature available for consecutive scans only and not when you restart computer without making changes to files ?

I am using XP-Sp2 ,NIS 09 ,IE 6,Firefox 3.0.4

Re: Insight Question

I believe that the rescan may be because Norton wants to check that malware has not altered one of those files from when it was originally scanned and passed as trusted.

Re: Insight Question

So is "Whenever I restart the computer and run full system scan , Norton again scans the whole system

even when I have not done any modifications to those trusted files." a normal behaviour ?

Note that same things happen even when I do not connect to internet......so no chance of worms or malwares

Also please give some details of the scenario when Norton Insight works

I still know very little about Insight

Re: Insight Question

I doubt that it matters whether you connect to the internet or not -- there are other ways of getting infected.

<<I still know very little about Insight  >>

You are not alone ..... the only people who know how it works are Symantec and I'm not one of them <s>

But seriously have a look in the root Norton Community at the blogs and there has been one devoted to Insight with a lot of background information.

Re: Insight Question

[ Edited ]

Hi Michael0 :smileyhappy:

Do You Know What?

You Have Made My Day! :smileyvery-happy:

Asking all those Norton Insight questions.

I only realised the stupidness of Norton Insight... A few days ago.

Basically...

I ran a Full System Scan

Not realising there was already a Full System Scan Scheduled to run later that day.

When the second Full System Scan - Popped Up! ... But only ran for 4 minutes ...

I couldn't understand what was going on :smileysurprised:

I thought there was something terribly wrong :smileysad:

Then I saw a comment on here about - Norton Insight .. And - Only Subsequent Scans

And.. The Penny Dropped! :smileywink:

I Agree With Everything You've Said & Asked - 100%

Norton Insight

It's us that need some - Insight :smileyvery-happy:

Crazy! ... Isn't It?

Who in the world...

Is going to regularly Full Scan their computer .. More than once a day.

Run a Full System Scan

Then run another Full System Scan ... Just to see it run quicker :smileyindifferent:

Thanks! :smileywink:

Re: Insight Question

Hi Phil_D :

I read that article but can you tell me if Insight works Only when I do a consecutive scan ......and not when I restart the computer without any changes to files.

Why does it scan the whole system again even when there is no change to the files ?

Also read Zana's post (if you haven't)....that also raises the same question

Thanks for reply !!!

Re: Insight Question

It will work also when you do restarts. You can see it in your history. Norton needs to do a full scan even when you think files do not change. Most files really do change with updates etc..
