I installed NIS2011 on 11/2, by 11/5 Live Update wouldn't work either. I finally did a Live Chat on 11/6 and after 6 1/2 hours of downloading the fix from a remote assistance, it worked. The next day (today 11/7), Live Update worked when I logged on this morning, logged off to go out, came back on this afternoon, now it doesn't update automatically again. Supposed to show every hour, nothing. I have it running now and it is taking forever and probably will end up failing to complete as it did the last six times I tried to run it before contacting Norton. I am on Windows XP, if this is going to be the norm where I have to run it manually and hope for the best, I may just take the loss and buy a different security system.
Any suggestions??

My ISP is not Orange and I am in the US. What concerns me is that it happened just a few days after installing it. Last year I had no problem with it, the year before, it happened during the middle of the subscription and once the fix was done, that solved the problem. There should be no reason for constant manual runs to have it work.
Maybe another system may or may not have a problem. But if it is happening to more than one person with different ISP's and systems, that should raise a concern.

When I logged on this morning, I opened NIS first thing and clicked on Run Live Update (which I shouldn't have to do, just annoys) and I noticed it had less MB's than when I stopped it last night when I had to leave. Right after that, it showed that it was so many seconds that it had been run, instead of hours from the day before. Today it shows 16 hours ago (since it doesn't do it automatically), will see what happens when I have to stop it again. I am just hoping it updates what it has to. I've used Norton for several years, never had that much of a problem until now.
Who knows, maybe the little blue men are having fun with it???

Is this what you mean? Its just showing how long ago you updated your virus def.

Yes and the last shown virus definition update as of this morning is 1 day ago at 11/07/10 at 4:20:36pm. I have tried to run live update by clicking (again) on Run LIve Update from the screen, it fails to complete again. Obviously, it is not working. How does one get this to run to check for virus updates and actually show that it is done?

Hi LIRoe
From post #2, it looks like Live Update is working fine. On my system i have noticed that the counter showing "seconds\minutes\days ago" gets updated after every live update that brings down virus definitions\ pulse updates (whether it was user-initiated or automatic).
The counter that shows up is only for "virus definitions" update. There are a lot more updates that are brought down by live update. So the counter is not indicative of the last time live update was run.To be more clear, if in a live update session, if there are product updates other than virus defs, this counter will not be updated.
As far as I know, Automatic live update runs during idle time. Please see post #1 of the following thread.
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Automati
So automatic live update might not run every hour depending on whether the system is idle or not.And jus FYI, automatic live update is a silent activity.
Hope this clears out a few things.
Thanks.

Sorry, i missed to see your last post. I m unsure about the live update failing. It would be good to try the google DNS or the Norton DNS(though you are not a Orange customer, there might be something else related to DNS that is causing the live update to fail).
In the live update window, (after clicking View details) are you seeing a "particular update" failing each time?
Thanks

It now has been two days since anything has been updated, which I find unusual. Normally, it updates as needed, two days seems to be a longer time than usual. I was told today, to uninstall and reinstall NIS 2011. When I do click on live update, it has been failing every time when it gets to Process updates. I have one more call to make before I decide what to do.
Unfortunately, the manual runs can take up to several hours, which is not feasible for me. I will look into the google DNS and see what that entails.
I appreciate your assistance, just hope it isn't me not understanding. Just seems unusual this time.
Take care,
LI Roe

Hi LlRoe,
NIS 2011 logs recent LiveUpdate sessions. Go to Norton Security History and select to Show LiveUpdate (it is at the bottom of the scroll list). This will tell you if automatic LiveUpdates are running but failing, in which case it may be a connectivity issue, rather than Norton not working properly.

Hi,
Please follow the below instruction :
1)Make sure that the system date and time are correct. If it is incorrect, correct it, and then run LiveUpdate.
2)Run Intelligent Updater
3)Change your DNS settings to: 198.153.192.1 and 198.153.194.1
