Hello Tim
It's also affecting NAV 2009 xp pro sp3 IE 8. It started with getting 2 IPS definition updates at the same time last night Nov 23rd. I noticed the driver number changed also. At least that is when it started with me.
Tywin7, is it necessary for you to give instructions for updating 3 times in this thread? 2 times in a row, once with screen shots and once without them?
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

One of them was a generic information to upgrade to the latest version while the other two were instructions to upgrade to two specific Norton programs (NIS/NAV) supported by this forum.

Good afternoon Mr. Lopez,
Thank you for looking into this problem. It seems to have started for us within the past 1-2 days on three separate machines all running Norton 360 Version: 3.8.0.41 that I believe is from the year 2009 version and IE 8 with windows xp pro with sp3 fully updated. The machines all run Norton live update regularly. I ran Norton's Live update today without change in the problem which is IE 8 freezing up when closing requiring reboot. I eliminated all plug-ins and added back one at a time to find disabling only Norton's intrusion protection plug-in completely fixed the problem. Letting you know as your reply to the previous post indicated you believed the problem only affects year 2010 products, ours I believe being a 2009 product.
When you have a solution please let us know.
Thank you.

Hello shawodjo803,
Thanks! The root cause should still be fixed shortly, regardless of which products/operating systems it affects. Keep an eye on this thread for updates on this situation. ![]()

All,
Please run LiveUpdate to download updated IPS Definitions. This should solve the problem.
If you still have this issue, reboot the computer.
Please let us know if this solves your issue!

Problem seems to have been fixed with the latest patch. There were two more a few minutes later so run LU till it doesn't find anymore updates to be certain you get them all and the latest ones....................![]()

I too had this problem with IE 7 that cropped up today; namely: browser hangs on close, disabling IP plug-in workaround
This was with IE7 7.0.6002.18005 / Vista-Ult-SP2 / NIS 2010 17.8.0.5, with IP Engine version 4.8.0.20 defns 20101122.006.
I have been following the related IE7 thread and this one. All LiveUpdates prior to 3:44pm MST today were ineffective.
I am happy to report that now a LiveUpdate downloading
Intrusion Prevention Engine version: 4.8.0.17
Definitions Set version: 20101123.001
the problem has been fixed for me also.
Ditto - Many Thanks to Tim Lopez and Symantec team for their TIMELY effort.

So far so good ![]()
IP Defs are 20101123.001
Driver version is 9.5.0.22 (was 9.5.2.11 this morning which may have been the problem).
thanks
