Internet Explorer 9 is here, 32 and 64 bit

:smileyhappy:

I see that Norton does not support the 64 bit version yet, but does anyone know if the 32 bit version is fully supported?

Cheers,

drshlomo.

Hi drshlomo,

IE9 is still in "beta". The newly available version is only a Relese Candidate one.

Working with the Norton products, however it is not supported officially, the 32-bit version is OK, but only if you use the latest versions: Norton 360 5.0 and NAV/NIS2011 v18.5.

Re: Internet Explorer 9 is here, 32 and 64 bit

PapauZ Hi,  :smileyhappy:

Thank you so much for that very informative and speedy reply, for which I am most grateful.

When I saw it called IE 9, I assumed that it was the final product.

Yes, I do use Norton 360 V5 Beta and and NIS 2011 v 18.5.0.125, as you recommend.

Again, thank you,

drshlomo.

I've put IE9 RC on both my Windows 7 32-bit computers with NIS 2011 and had absolutely no problems or conflicts.

As of Wednesday, 16 Feb 2011, Windows 7 SP1 was RTM. I have it right here and hope to get to it soon. I can speak for IE9, but there should be no problem with SP1 and NIS.

Re: Internet Explorer 9 is here, 32 and 64 bit

I have been waiting and waiting to try IE9. Went again this morning to the Release Candidate but it would only offer me the 64-bit version ... probably because my OS is Win7 64-bit. Until NIS 2011 supports IE9 64-bit, I will continue to wait. That probably won't happen until IE9 is officially released as ready for primetime.

Oh, well ...

On 64-bit systems both 32- and 64-bit versions are installed. You can install it if you wish. :)

PapauZ Hi,  :smileyhappy:

Yes indeed, I have a 64 bit system and have been running 32 bit IE 9 with Norton support and tool bar without any problems, as you suggest.

Cheers,

drshlomo.

Re: Internet Explorer 9 is here, 32 and 64 bit

Me too, 64 bit system with 32 bit IE9.  Installed IE9 yesterday with no visible problems.

Question;  does this mean there is problem that can't be seen.  Is Norton 360 5.0 giving false possitives?  Is N360 not alerting me correctly to Bad or Safe sites?  Should I be concerned?

The reason I pose this to you is because today I called Symantec Customer Service and asked this question and also told them everything looks normal as it did prior to IE9 install.  Unfortunately, he was reading off a script and did not answer my question.  Just said Norton 360 is not compatible with IE9 and I should switch to a different Browser.  Either not listening or did not understand.

So what do you think?     ...Fern

Re: Internet Explorer 9 is here, 32 and 64 bit

Hi Fern,

you can use IE9. :) You will be totally protected. During the Norton 360 version 5 beta program the compatible plugin was developed for the Release Candidate version of IE9. Since that in IE's code there were only little changes, so the Norton plugins are fully compatible with it. I myself use the two since the beta versions, and I must say, I never had any issues with it.
