Hello, I upgraded from NIS 2010 to NIS 2011. I have Vista 32 bit. Since installing 2011 I cannot get to many pages on the internet. I often get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". It happens 75% of the time. I have tried disabling parts of NIS to see if it makes a difference but it did not. Also, sometimes instead of getting the webpage, I get the webpage in text...with a tree of content. I am hoping someone can advise me. I also tried using Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome with the same outcome. Thank You.

Hi kemakash,
Welcome to the Norton Community. Did you install NIS 2011 over the top of 2010 or did you remove it first? It is normally recommended to install over the top as long as your previous version of NIS was working OK.
Also, after installing NIS 2011 did you run Live Update and then reboot your computer? After rebooting you should run live update again to ensure all updates are retrieved. The reboot is very important because several updates have come out since release of NIS 2011 which requires this.
Do you have any other security software installed besides NIS?
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

Can you please try what happens if you uninstall Norton 2011 temporarely?
It is possible that during the update process some files has been damaged/left over from the old version.
If after the uninstall everything works OK, please run the Norton Removal Tool (www.norton.com/nrt) 2-3 time, each time reboot after the run, and then reinstall version 2011.
Let us know the results.

Hi kemakash,
Do the webpages that won't load have any common features, such as using SSL (https://), or being login pages? See this Microsoft KB article for troubleshooting suggestions:

Also try resetting Internet Explorer:

I upgraded over 2010. (I did not unistall 2010). I rebooted computer and ran live update. I do not have any other antivirus software on my computer. My 2010 Norton ran flawlessly. Thanks for the help.

HI kemakash,
You said you rebooted your computer and then ran live update. Did you reboot after running live update?
You can also try temporarily disabling NIS add-ins for IE. Go to Tools > Manage Add-ins. Scroll down to the Symantec section and you will find 3 listed. Disable all of those and restart IE and see if the problem is still present.
Best wishes.

Yes, I did reboot after installing Live Updates. The Symantec add ons in IE are were already disabled. I think I will try uninstalling NIS and see if it makes a differnece. If it does I will run that tool (uninstaller) and then re-install. Do I install NIS 2011 or try 2010? Does 2011 work well on most computers? Thank you.

Before I uninstall and then use the Norton Removal Tool, I have two questions. I cannot get to the link norton.com/nrt listed in PapauZ's post. When I click on it I get a Symantec page not found. I found this link when searching Norton's site:
Should I follow these instructions? Thank you.

I think I am all set. I researched further and it looks like I had a google redirect virus. I removed it and it seems to be working fine now. I thank you for all your assistance.
