Hi,
i also have this problem. I use firefox 3.5 and even in Norton Internet Security 2009 this problem occured. It was after installing the new firefox 3.5. IE 8 works fluently and without any inconvenience.
My system consists of: Windows Vista (32-bit), SP 2 - Upgrade from XP, Firefox 3.5, IE 8, Norton Internet Security 2010 (upgraded from NIS 2009). The Version of the Norton IPS is 2.0. After disabling the addon Norton IPS firefox starts without any problems. Strange and funny, too, somehow ... In Firefox, i cannot change the settings of Norton IPS because for that would a restart be necesseray which refuses to start firefox again (because of the error UXP-Detection)
The error is: UXP-Detection 59026, link: about:blank
I'm wondering if there is a danger or an infection of any kind (Virus, trojan, ...) or just a malfunction of the Norton IPS and a false positive.
After reading the replies to this thread, i am confused. I confess... ![]()
What can i do or what has to be done by symantec to fix this?
I'm grateful for all information and hope we all can soon be rid of this problem.

I am having the same issue with Norton closing IE7 or 8 and Firefox.
Norton gives me a pop-up stating that it detected a UXP Detection 59026.
I am running on Windows XP SP3
NIS
Version: 17.0.0.136
IE7 version: 7.0.5730.11IC
Firefox 3.5
I've ran LiveUpdate multiple times, re-installed NIS, restarted my pc, ran Intelligent Updater, but still I have this problem.

Fellow community member PattyBo confirmed that the problem is fixed with the IPS definitions that was released on September.
Here are the details of the IPS definitions quoted in the post.
Sept 15 6:54 PM 4.5.067 Definitions 20090911.001
Sept 16 6:24 AM 4.1.0.61 Definitions 20090911.003
Sept 16 6:35 PM 4.5.067 Definitions 20090916.003
Check if you have the same IPS definitions or have an outdated one. You can check for the IPS defs version number in the following path.
For XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{XXXX-YYII-MMMM-AAAA-QWERTYQ}\NIS_17.0
For Vista:
C:\Program Data\ Norton\{XXXX-YYII-MMMM-AAAA-QWERTYQ}\NIS_17.0.0.13

I still get the "UXP Detection 59009" problem.
After running Live Update I looked in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}
Are my IPS definitions up to date? If not, why isn't Live Update updating the IPS definitions?

I did the same thing and came up with the same folder, 20090911.001, and only that folder, no other 2009... folders.
Where do I update the ips defs, I cannot locate a place to do so anywhere on the site?
I agree with Jvnase, why isn't LiveUpdate updating this?
Obviously the outdated defs are causing the problem, but we need a way to update them.
I'm currently on a trial of NIS 2010, but want to buy it. I just want to be able to use my pc like a pc when it's running and not have to turn off something I've paid for.

Can you give it a try using the intelligent updater? May be you can get the latest versions of the IPS definitions from here.

The lists of IPS definitions can be found here.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

I tried using the intelligent updater as you suggested. It ran and completed, however, the IPS definitions did not change.
The files located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}

The folder named 20090911.001 dated Sept. 21, 2009 is now gone from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}
I have not gotten the "UXP Detection 59009" issue the last few days. Time will tell.
