Re: Is This Version of NISS part of its 2009 program ?

Helloo to you all and thanks for replying ... the last verion i had before the  16.2.7.10  update was 16.5.0.135 and didn't have a squeek of a problem with it .. when i installed as a new customer on or about 8/9 (give/take) i don't remember 'what' the version was at that time but i don't think it was 16.5.0.135  - but it wasn't the 'new/current' 16.0.0.125 that i now have but whatever - LOL it's working like a charm and i'm happy as a clam...so nice to have my computer 'back'

... the problems i had (and others)  including the 'framework error' have now disappeared...

Per advices on this post,   I won't turn-off auto updates -   thanks again for all your help !  Edythe

Just remember that you might get Updated to the 16.5.0.134/5 Version via Automatic LiveUpdate or a Manual Norton LiveUpdate.

And you're welcome.  Glad I could help!

I was aware of all that before I posted and also that Edythe has described herself as cautious in her browsing.

It's a question of lesser evils.

I'm also aware that Tony has posted a link to download the .135 version for those who want to install that.

Re: Is This Version of NISS part of its 2009 program ?

Whether you stick with the version that Customer Support installed for you to solve the problem you referred to you is entirely up to you.

But if you were entirely happy with .135 then Symantec have published to following source to get it from and since your version is earlier if you download / let it install it will remove the earlier edition as part of the process and preserve you settings and things like spam lists, which is important for me since it takes time to retrain the antisam module.

If you wish to download and install the previous version of Norton Internet Security (16.5.0.135), please visit the Norton Update Center:

http://www.norton.com/update

The instructions there are very clear and straightforward -- just select Norton Internet Security and 2009 as your version.

I ran this yesterday to check it out and it uses the current system of a Download Manager so from that website you download a short file and after it downloads to your desktop you click on it and it starts a further download and install of the .135 version.

The decision is entirely up to you.

Hello - i'm writring this after reviewing some past posts - i hope i don't have to bother you all again and i'm not sure 'where' there is going - i'm still getting lost:

Anyway,,,    If i understand some of the advices given states  it's o.k. for me to stay with this 16.0.0.125 until i'm updated to probably 16.5.++ via live update. (i'm a tad tentative to try and update to a later version on my own)

... if you all think i'm in an 'o.k' position by  staying  'put' with what the tech gave me (if i remember someone suggested that i rec'd 'that' version (16.00.125) since that was the only one available to the tech to get me out of my 'mess' ).

As i said - so far, so good - i'm into day 2 with no problems ... only thing that worries me  is it possible with this very early version i now have that i'm not getting the latest  'virus' definitions as if i had a later 'version' ? -Does the version 'dictate' the 'currency' of virus definitions =that no matter what version one has for NIS 2009 one would still be 'current/updated' for virus definitions regardless of the ''version'' ...or are those that  i am  getting (last one just 1 hr ago of this posting) are relevant only to this version (16.0.0.125) and not on 'real-time' date i.e. those offered as of today 8/22/09 ?  hope i didn't confuse you ...  i can't find where in the console to surf to find what number def's i received today ... went into network -found today's date under defs but not the identity that would then allow me to go to Norton's site to view the last number installed... again many thanks to all trying to help - Edythe

Re: Is This Version of NISS part of its 2009 program ?

Hi, EDYTHE,

Just to clarify, the 16.7.2.10 has been pulled from the Norton LiveUpdate Servers.

If you were having no problems with the 135 Version, then I would suggest that you go back to that Version; I would think you would be able to get via Norton LiveUpdate, but, if not, you will have to go to the Norton Update Center and do it that way.

I hope this helps!

Re: Is This Version of NISS part of its 2009 program ?

Hi EDYTHE,

There are reports that the download link for NIS 2009 is actually downloading 16.7 and not 16.5.  My advice would be to stay with what you have presently.  The virus definitions are the same.  You are protected and you have a trouble-free installation that will update automatically when the 16.7 update is fixed and re-issued, so I would not risk downloading anything new until this all gets sorted out.

Re: Is This Version of NISS part of its 2009 program ?

Hi, EDYTHE,

Did you try the Hot Fix when you had 16.7.2.10?  The Hot Fix is now widely available, and most people (98%) seem to be having no more Issues once they install the Hot Fix.  Just thought I'd bring that to your attention.

Hello Floating_Red...

No...i didn't know about the HF at the time i started all the fun with my computer and besides - i would be too apprehensive, given my 'level' of 'expertice' to even attempt anything on my own ... called Tech -explained my problem - told them i am 3 weeks 'new' to thier company/program - pleeeezzee  do something for me and they did -(the Remote uninstall/reinstall back to version 16.00.125.).. i'm happy - things are back to normal -(but what do i know?!! LOL)  i don't plan to download any ''newer' versions until Norton does their own via Live Update... Granted, i could be missing nice things with later versions (prior to the dreaded 16.7.1.10)  but sometimes in life " ignorence is bliss"

Thanks again for all your hand-holding and support - Edythe
