yet another problem?! (NIS 2012)
just attempted to update my Malwarebytes AntiMalware...(i have the 'free' edition) after i launched the program & clicked to start the update, rather than the usual 'scale' starting the update another 'screen' popped up & i had to 'agree' to terms, etc. clicked on that - next screen advanced stating in order to proceed i have to disable NIS a/v& firewall...never saw this before ..it is version 1.61.0.1400 don't remember if it was going to install 'more' than just definitions...but it wouldn't 'continue' until i would turn off nis & firewall....i did neither but came right here .
while here - in order to give proper information i re-launched the update but this time it did the 'normal' update (green 'scale' running-then the o.k.) without the above instructions about shutting down NIS, etc.
I came 'here' (yup, again) because i was told to (per above) to disable NIS, etc. .. didn't want to do that until i posted here .... thanks - Edythe ...

Hi EDYTHE,
On reading your post I opened MBAM and it automatically downloaded the new version. I was able to install without disabling N360. Please ensure have haven't activated a trial of the PRO version.

Hello Krusty
i was at the usual launched site after clicking on the MBAM icon in my 'tray' ...it launched - clicked on the 'update' tab ...it started and the next thing i saw was that 'notification' ...i'll go back and make sure i didn't click by error to upgrade to the PRO .... i was able to go back and do the 'usual' update - it worked just as always .. o.k just tried again and here's what's showing (as before): 'Latest version of MBAM(spelled out) has been downloaded and will now close & install the latest verson.... but i didn't click yet to continue ...i can 'cancel' however - but i'll continue and see if i get the same message .. but have to close this and any other program per 'wizard''.... - thanks -

went back to try again and saw it said it was 'recommended' to disable, ...the reason the screen didn't 'continue' i found out was that i didn't put an 'check' for agreeing to terms 'and' for non-commercial use & not because i didn't shut down the protection ...THEN the screen proceeded for installing (...i have that on 'hold' till I hear back from you) ..but still it is 'recommneded to disable the av & firewall ... is that taking too much of a chance or is there the possiblity that NIS would 'interfere' with the installation of the new verision..?? i have never disabled them in the past for these updated version and i'm sure the same 'suggestion' was in place before - i just didn't pay attention .... sorry for any inconvenience and thanks again !!!! edyteh

You can go ahead and continue. As I mentioned, I didn't disable N360 and it installed fine.
I have the free version and it did not offer me the trial again, and this time my preferences stayed intact.
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks so much for your quick reply !!! i can't believe i didn't see the 'recommended disabling' disclaimer previous times i did these updated 'versions' !! just didn't take the time i guess ! anyway it's ready to continue and if you had no problems and i didn't in the past, i also will not disable av/firewall...didn't feel 'good' about doing it anyway. but i suppose these programs have to protect themselves also with said 'disclaimers' ... i also have the 'free' version... ..many many thanks !!!! edythe :) (what a relief)

You are right to be suspicious of programs recommending to disable NIS. You will be much safer to ask here first.
Thanks for letting us know, I mightn't of even know about the update for a while had I not read your post.
Cheers, Dave.

FWIW - I have updated 2 systems this morning and did not see the warning to disable NIS 360 - nor do I ever remember being asked to do that in the past.
I believe the second check mark (for non-commercial use) is new.

I also updated this morning without incident. I don't use N360, but NIS and wasn't prompted to disable anything.
What yank said about the second check mark must be new. I don't remember that from the past.
Ed
