My NIS 2012 subscription was due to expire on 6/25/12, rather than spend $49 for the renewal, I purchase a new NIS 2012 from Amazon for less than half the price. I installed my new key on my existing NIS and went through the activation process. All is good, except I keep getting emails from Norton that my subscription expired!

This happens because "renewing" in this way effectively installs a new copy and the Norton database also knows about the copy that expired ...
I believe the nags stop after a while or you can contact the Norton OnLine Support Team via the CHAT route as below and ask them to update your records since they have the tools to do this.
To contact customer support Click on this link https://www.norton.com/chat and work on from there.
Please let us know how you get on ....

The emails will stop after about 30 days. Or as Hugh mentioned, you can contact Support to ask them to stop them sooner.
