Hi swordbyte:
I noticed that Symantec started rolling out NIS 2012 v. 19.5.0.145 on 27-Jan-2012 - see Symantec employee Tim Lopez's post here for a list of bug fixes.
Unfortunately, several users reported problems with the new product update (see brkkab123's post here for one example), and some users who contacted Symantec support have been told that the rollout of v. 19.5 has been temporarily suspended for a few days until the programmers have had chance to do some more testing.
Now I'm curious what happened to versions 19.3 and 19.4.![]()

It's common practice for Norton to skip version numbers on public increments but they use them internally to keep track of changes that might come down in LiveUpdate but not need a restart or justify shouting about ....

Hi,
I had to uninstall / reinstall NIS 2012.
Now no matter what I try NIS will not update Norton Toolbar from 2012.2.2 to 2012.2.2.5.
I have tried every conceivable combination of installation & updating possible.
(Norton first, Firefox first, Firefox 8 updated to 9, Firefox 9 you name it)
Is it possible to force Norton Toolbar to update from 2012.2.2 to 2012.2.2.5?
Can I download a new coFFPlgn.dll?

HI BigEdMan:
Please see kdump's post here in the thread titled Norton Toolbar and Firefox 9.01.
Symantec has apparently suspended delivering product updates for a few days while they work out the kinks with the lastest NIS 2012 v. 19.5.0.145 update that was released on 27-Jan-2012. If you check your NIS version number at Support | About, you'll likely see that you still have an earlier version like v. 19.1.1.3 installed, even after you've re-booted and run manual LiveUpdates a few times to get your protection up-to-date.
Unfortunately, this means also that the updates for the Firefox 8.x and 9.x compatible Norton Toolbar won't be delivered to users who just installed/re-installed NIS 2012 for a few days. In the mean time, you'll either have to use Firefox without the Norton Toolbar or switch to your IE browser while you're waiting for the products updates to start arriving again via LiveUpdate.

Symantic has NOT "suspended delivering product updates for a few days." One of my 3 PCs running NIS 2012 was updated this morning (01/30/2012 at 7:32am). I wish I could have stopped it until the bugs are worked out. Now, I'm concerned about my other 2 PCs and how to prevent them from being updated.

Hi,
have you gone into NIS settings, computer, updates and turned everything off? That should get you close to only getting live updates when you run the program manually.
Hope this helps

Dick - So turning off all the LU options & doing only manual updates will prevent this patch/update from automatically being installed?

No promises. There may be no way to prevent the update from downloading and installing but at least you will have kept the possibility to a minimum. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

I've turned off all the update options. We'll see what happens. ![]()
